Hi guys! I'm keen to go for a good ride tomorrow (Saturday), nothing too insane but up for a bit of fun.. maybe head south, or in to Central a bit.. Roxburgh/Lawrence etc.. Weather forecast is looking fantastic so I'd say just take it as it comes.
Anyone keen to come with me? It's much more fun riding with others and I'm keen to meet a few more local 250 riders!
If you're keen, post in here or PM me and we can work out a route that suits.
Those on bigger bikes of course welcome to come too but I'm aiming this at the more n00b riders that aren't quite fast enough for the main Dunedin Rides thread yet! =)

Hi
Yeah I'd definitely be keen but I'm still waiting for my bloody bike to get fixed. They're waiting on another part to come in from Japan so they say. Maybe in a few weeks when it's running and legal (rego, wof). It's annoying too because I'm heading up to central this weekend anyway to go fruit picking but now have to drive my mum's corona.

Hi Blair
Yeah, It'd be good to go for a ride. Bit tied up tomorrow, I'm sorry to say, but I'd be keen to take a raincheck on that...
Taieri Plains makes for a good ride, so long as there aren't too many impatient tin-tops out and about. What route did you have in mind?
Cheers

Wasn't really sure, was just keen to get on the bike, hit the road and see where I end up! I've only been on a couple of big rides before so probably sticking to fairly main routes.. down to Milton, head inland towards Roxburgh.. see how far we can go before we have to come back!
I've gotta be back in town by about 5pm at the latest (goin out for tea) so probably leave mid morning.
I'm always up for a ride though, so PM me when you're free =)

Hey Blair,
Thanks for the invite for a ride tommorow, would love to come but i've already got a fishing trip locked in! Also my wee scorpio 225 may battle to hold on to the ninja a bit. May get back too you later tonight if the fishing falls through.
How are you finding the ninja? I've loved learning on my scorpio from zip experiance at all, but now 4 months on i wish it had a bit more bite around 100kmph, i want to buy a dirty cbr, but torn on the idea it's going to be 20 years old!
Anyway, keep me informed of rides as am keen to have a nudge. Enjoy it!
Btw, i went from Dunedin to Outram, up to Hindon, then to Middlemarch, and back via Maccrays quarry and then Palmerston to home the other day which was fantastic and tons less cars than the main routes around.
Cheers
Ben

Yeah please do - I've only had the bike for just over 2 months (my first bike) so riding fairly conservatively too, I'm sure you can keep up.. I certainly won't be in any hurry!

I'm loving it. I've done just over 2000km now so it's fully run in, so I can really start pushing it hard - I'm always suprised how much power it has for a 250! (Not that I have anything to compare it to). I'd be interested to ride with you and see how it goes!

Hey man,
It looks like most people are busy, but turns out the water up the coast is really murky and so diving is off, so if you're keen for a casual ride up to middlemarch tommorow 12ish, then i'm keen. Or just save it for next saturday, what ever suits!

sounds good. I have thought of organising a rally - "250 under 250"!! Gold coin entrance procedes to helicopter rescue or whatever. But that would take a whole lot of organising. Tomorrow too short notice for me too and unfortunately have work next weekend so you guys enjoy the trip. Thanks for the private mail - I would have missed the posts otherwise.

Hey guys, awesome to see there's plenty of interest. Obviously I've left it way too late to organise something for tomorrow, but I'm definitely keen to work something out for next weekend.. then perhaps we can make it a regular thing =)
I'm looking forward to riding with other 250's, I'm sick of being left behind by the big bikes! Also a good way for us to share tips/tricks etc and get advice (although we're all noobies, I'm sure we have learned a lot already!)
I'm actually doing the ride right course next Sunday, I've been told it's the best thing you can ever do.. anyone else doing this / have done it?
Ben, gimme a txt on 021 225 2474.. I was hoping to leave about 11ish, as I need to be back in town by 5pm and better to be safe! Definitely keen for a ride though =)

Right guys, here's the plan! So far there's just a couple of us, but if anyone else is keen to tag along that would be awesome.
Plan is to meet at BP Connect Southern (on the 1-way heading south) at 12 midday.
We're thinking we'll go to Middlemarch and back, but we can always detour if we find something fun along the way!
Let me know if you're keen, otherwise just show up at 12 and we'll see who's there =) Feel free to txt me on 021 225 2474 if you're running a bit late etc.

It's awesome! I enjoyed it. The actual practical riding segments of it is pretty much just reinforcing what you had done for the Basic Handling Test, but it's fun doing it in groups and good knowing how your own bike handles the "obstacles".
The theory segments are very informative. Last week's class was very responsive and engaging and helps make the lessons funny.
I would say it's a good course to attend!

Well.. I had a fantastic day today at the Ride Right course. Got to say, the instructors were all really helpful - gave enough criticism to be helpful, without being too harsh!
It covers everything from counter-steering, emergency braking, cornering, basic safety.. there was a great range of bikes too.
If you haven't done the course I definitely recommend it - the best $60 you'll part with.. and a really fun day!
Was good to meet up with a few of you KB'ers too and have a good ride out to Taieri Mouth =)

Yeah, it was Ray. He did make the day go well and made everyone relaxed and able to participate. Learnt plenty, almost think they should make it compulsory. Don't know why it is only dunedin.
From what I know, the Ride Right Otago courses are joint efforts, conducted on a volunteer basis by the guys from Otago Motorcycle Club and BRONZ (Bikers Rights Organisation NZ) Otago and partly subsidised by ACC. Auckland supposedly had something similar, which is what the RRO courses are modelled after.
I suppose motorcycle clubs elsewhere in NZ could get together and do something like this... though they need guys like Ray to pull off the boring classroom bits without putting everyone to sleep!
In Singapore where I was originally from it is compulsory to go through lessons like these and then a riding test before being awarded a "learner" license equivalent - except that it would stretch out to about 15 hours over a few days, and conducted by wankers who think they know everything.

Hi all. Has been AGES since I've been on here, but thought it was about time we did another 250 ride! Who's free this weekend?

Hey man, sorry been away over summer and etc, but back into it now and keen for a ride next time the weather is nice! Just sitting my full licence on Thursday and I have a spanking GSR600 sitting in the garage waiting for me to be able to ride it! Can't wait. Let me know if you're keen sometime.

Haha, I live down Mac bay, the grits all good if you have to ride your bike daily for work ect, but the moment that sh!t gets dry, your no better off on the corners haha

Bumping this back up to the top.. weather is good again and it's time to dig my bike out of the garage. Poor thing hasn't been ridden much lately! Any 250 riders in Dunedin keen to get out there?

why stick to just the 250s?
there is a ride that leaves the from the carpark of the southern bar (by the oval), arrive 6:15 ish, and they leave at 630. destination decide on the day by those who turn up. all riders all bikes, all capacities welcome. its a ''ride your own ride' deal, ride your own pace and nobody minds.
turn up there next week
