O.K. most of us dropped the ball on the 4th  so let's try again.....
The 18th is the next so let's ALL be there and scare some boy racers :devil2:
sign in from 5-8 or 9ish then racing from there on....
You need helmet(duh) and boots and a rego and wof,and a licence,I think a restricted is ok,not sure about learners(though it usta be).
Give it a go,it's great fun!!!
Cost is about $35 all up for gate, entry and temp race licence.

It only costs $25 ($10 spectator fee and $15 to race).
Don't be put off by thinking your bike is too slow - in the DYO class its not about how fast you go but how close to your specified time you are so consistency is the name of the game not great times. This is where the small bikes/tourers/commuters have it over the inconsistent wheelspinning/wheelying bigger bikes.
You can't take race bikes as you need headlights to see where you are going once it gets dark.

Don't worry most of you will have quicker reaction time than me. It was a lot of fun and I got 6 practice rounds in before I would have had to compete, so even if you get eliminated early in the compition you will still have had a decent ride.

I managed to bugger up getting down there too, so didn't make it.. Well keen for this one, might try to get off work earlier to try to miss the traffic too..
What groups leaving where at what time..?? Look at dat - 3 questions in 1! How economical of me..
Don't know if I'm going to drag tho. I need a new back tyre soon, so trying to make it last (burn outs won't help!). Apart from ripping up the tyre, how much extra stress is the bike under, during a run? I know the mechanics of it, and blah blah involved etc, but how much extra wear is it putting onto things like the chain and clutch etc? Just wondered..

Nothing a decent bike can't handle...oh wait, I see you're riding a kwaka = Better take a trailer load of spares, dude... :P
Mocks aside, how hard do you ride it on the street? A 636 should handle at least a half a dozen drags no problem. My '88 GSX-R ran all day (20+ runs) without a hint of a problem. Just do your regular checks, ie tyre tread, tyre pressure, chain slack/condition and throttle/clutch cable slack. Brakes are for wussies, ya don't need 'em at the drag strip. ;)
If you have at least some mechanical affinity with your machine, you should notice clutch heat related symptoms before you do any permanent damage.

I know what a burnt out clutch smells like, and really wouldn't want to smell that from my machine!! It's only just past 7,000ks, so on one hand, it's still fresh, so what could go wrong..?? On the other hand, parts could still be 'wearing in' so beating it up isn't going to help the longitivity of it.. I have given it jip off the lights (almost mandatory, isn't it..?), and I'm sure most other riders go harder, and I don't hang around..
It's just short bursts of power that I was thinking of [on the strip]. I guess even on long runs, or whatever happens after the initial burst of power, it's still been done regardless of how long the 'run' goes on for.
Guess I just need a new rear tyre and I'd give it a go. Just wouldn't want to cock it up in front of a few hundy peeps and I slip the gear. I can just see them all :killingme and I'll be all :o

I have a lawn which can be camped on and a lounge floor that can be slept on, but I don't have any sleeping bags or pillows etc, apart from what's on the 2 seater couch. If my bro hasn't moved his crap out of the spare room, then there's a queen mattress which can be used too. I *think* he might have a sleeping bad which can be used too, but only if his crap hasn't gone.
Either way, my doors are open, can take a few. I'm over the shore in Auckyland...

OK last dragwars I did a best of 12.94@165kph(104mph). I've just been looking at the NZDRA website (http://www.nzdra.co.nz/page43.html) and see that this beats the national record for D/SB 400cc class by 0.05s ?!?!?
Does anyone know what the rules are for street bike class or is there something I'm missing??
My bike is stock except for gearing, rear shock and stock muffler from another bike and the 12.94 run was done with all road trim (mirrors/plate etc) and in need of a tune!!
Might be time to cross train I think!!!

You are correct. The time you are given for the quarter mile is exactly the time given for the quarter mile. Your reaction time will effect whether you make it over the line first or not. You can lose a race with a faster quarter mile time if your slow reactions mean you pass the finish line after the your opponent.

Yeah its not that part I'm unsure about (I'll need a drag licence and compete during the Nats in March). I'm curious as to what mods are allowed for streetstock class. If its just a matter of swapping back in a few non-essential stock bits then I might give it a crack.

That was a larf.
I was pretty much straight onto the track. My first 2 runs were against some dude on a Hayabusa who was posting mid 10's..not a great confidence booster. My best was a mid 11, but I know that if I knew what I was doing the bike would get into the 10's. The R1 has a very tall first gear that is a pain to get a good start with. The start is so crucial.
Highlight of the day evening without question was being told off for doing wheelstands by the track staff!! :shake: Yeh it was quite a nice one, even though I say it myself.
Second highlight was beating Death on a run. OK so my bike has an extra 250 cc over his, but what the heck it felt good.

That was the most fun i've had with my clothes on in ages!!! :wari: Seriously addictive, shit this could get expensive with two of us in the same house with the same habit. I'm wrapped with my first effort, 13.0 with reaction time .54, none too shabby if i say so myself. Thanx heaps to all the kb'rs who fed me all night with encouragement and support. Oh and plenty of shit too not mentioning any names :moon: wonko. Can't wait to see the pics.
Cheers Dudes

racing;11.3 win against some guy on a 600 Gixx(I think),11.1 win against a ZZR1100,Then instant death,11.0 against a Busa(he ran 10.6....)

Congrats Wonko...you and Draco did a fine job!! Yeah unfortunately I got too keen and red lighted. Still had a great time and got in 8 runs. I was a little down on power this week (think my recent homemade airfilter is doing a too-gooder job) and no where near as consistent as last time but still managed to better my previous best with a 12.89. However Draco is definately ready to take the KB 400cc crown in the very near future. Her bike was pulling 167kph which equals my best speed too so just a bit more launch practice will do it!
