I've looked up and down the site rules but can someone please clarify a few things for me? Can a rider on his restricted ride there on a 250? Are there any things you need to do to your road legal bike besides taking the mirrors off and taping up the lights? And I've heard about different tracks to ride. Are they all on the same day and are they pre-chosen for the different classes or what? Thanks for any help.

Don't think you need any licence to ride a trackday, mirrors or any glass just needs taping up, plastic headlights etc are fine without tape.
Whichever track is used, it is used for the whole day.
Your bike should be upto WOF standards to get through scrutineering.

Its WOF standard. What about over flow tubes? They need catch cans or anything?

Can a rider on his restricted ride there on a 250? Yes

Are there any things you need to do to your road legal bike besides taking the mirrors off and taping up the lights? No, but if your tyres and brake pads are due replacement, do it before you come

And I've heard about different tracks to ride. Are they all on the same day and are they pre-chosen for the different classes or what? The track is pre-chosen and all the groups run on the same track all day.

Which day are you booked in for? We have a additional briefing for first timers, and Chris or Kevin can help you technically, and you can ask for one of the 'Lines riders' to help you on the track. Come and see me before your group goes out and I'll make sure you are sorted.

See you there
Sue

I'm not sure which time to book but it will probably be the earlyest one next year. I've got exams this week and next week, and to add to that I will be buying some proper 2 piece teknic leathers and a new lid maybe even gloves so I'll be completely broke for a while. Thanks for the help though. Might get some new brake pads. Probably need to get a new water tank, its got a small crack that seems to be leaking a little bit so i know that won't fly. Once she's sweet though I'll book a ride.

The 'rules' are a bit different from actuality. Ergo, taping stuff up is required to stop you spreading fragments hither and yon, should you decide to test your bike's ability to do other than roll on two wheels.

In fact, it is a good plan to remove everything removable.

Taupo, compared to some other tracks, is very safe...as regards impacts against seriously hard objects. Where the potential bad-bits exist, kind souls have layered the (Oops I screwed up) path with vast areas of kitty-litter, otherwise known as Gap 30 scoria.

You can fall off into this shit at quite a speed and still stand up, but it's kind've soft but kind've hard. It'll rip off anything which is designed to hang onto a bike for ordinary road-use....Indicators, tail-lights, number-plates, mirrors, Triumphs, Honda's etc.

And so, with all your extraneous bits in a box in the pits, you can hit the kitty, even fall over, and know the worst will be scratches to your fairings and ego.

And if you do see yourself with no other option, take the kitty..Go stiff armed and swipe in the clutch and let the kitty haul you to a stop. It'll happen in no-time flat.

The general rule being, there are those who have hit the Kitty and those who will, but there are no 'wont's'. So don't feel bad about baling out. Feel good about baling out safely.

A good thing to get is crash-bungs and solid handle-bar counter-weights. If you do low-side the bungs and the bar-ends seem to take most of the drama.

If you high-side? Oh well, no amount of tape will help the result. But, by heavens, you'll develop a better relationship with your front-brake from the experience.:--))

Yea I know the track is pretty safe. Might leave the bungs and bar ends and just take off the indicators and mirrors and licence plate and tape over the lights. You going to be there on the 17th, Dpex?
