View Full Version : How do you cope with not riding?

Had to sell my bike and haven't found another one yet. WHat do you do on a nice fine day when the sun is shining and you are just aching to go for a ride. Even worse is when the kids get to go out on their dirt bikes and I can't join in. I am surrounded every day by bikes but none that I can ride.

Sucks. How do I cope with not riding? Badly. Namely; start fights, sit on my ass all day doing nothing, whine...Just generally be an asshole. Being off a bike for a while can help some things, from time to time, though. Focus on other things.

When I'm not riding my bikes,I'm working on them.To me motorcycles are an enjoyable 50/50 mix of riding and mechanical pootling around.Go out and pull a wheel off....then polish a farkle.
Oopps,I see you sold your bike and haven't got another one - that's really stupid. You need to have at least one other bike to work on for enjoyment.I don't think you are a really committed motorcyclist if you have actually shot off your own foot.NEVER,EVER be without a motorcycle, for whatever reason.Just don't do it - ALWAYS have a bike!

Why can't you go out and have a wicked broadside-attack on the old knobblies?

I don't
I didn't have a bike for 3 weeks once, and despite being away on holiday for half that, by the end, it felt like an eternity...
never again

I've been off my bike for nearly month coz I bent it. Strangely I'm not missing it at all, UNTIL I'm driving the cage somewhere and a pack of bikies goes the other way.. that hits home really hard. Yeah thats tough. :pinch:

I'd have to agree with the others, I don't.
Was laid off last summer with a broken arm, drove myself near enough insane.
My bike's currently in the shop and since i've sold my other 2 bikes i've recently discovered how dependent I am on bikes.. Can't actually get to work without it >.>

Sell the kids bikes and buy one for yourself!
Seriously though, seems tough for the boys to ride and you not. Snuggle up to FROSTY and take one of the yard bikes for a spin

Bwahaha! that sounds just like me. Even when its been just commuting followed by rain all weekend I find myself getting cranky - one of my old work mates used to tell me to piss off for a ride through Coatsville-Riverhead when I was getting to snappy

I wrote off my first bike in a crash and didn't go near a bike until I managed to get together enough cash for my next one.
It was the worst 3 weeks of my life.
Couldn't go anywhere, had to take the bus to work and back, etc. It was not fun. But it was a good experience as it gave me the time to think about why I came off and what I could/should have done to prevent that happening again, so when I did get my replacement, I would be a somewhat wiser rider and would be that much more careful.

I had no ridable bike for over 15months. The 'feeling' goes away after a while, but as soon as you put your leg over it comes back as strong as ever.
I don't think its the 'not riding' that is the problem, it's the things that riding takes away that are the problem... stress, thinking too much etc etc, I seem to clear my head when I ride, it took a while but I found other avenues to take care of those things.

Buy a really good camera, take lots of pix of your kids (includes frosty) riding, then, while they're all drooling and saying how rad they look, nick one of their bikes.....
Seriously though... I find the photo thing a good way of being involved in a sport where I can no longer be competitive (I'm just a trail rider these days, being old and decrepit) :crybaby:

Cranky is the word for it. I just went 10 days without the bike while in Aus, I was contemplating renting a Harley (all that was available). Desperate times indeed.

You sure you're a biker?
I recently went for 7 or 8 weeks (seemed like longer) without riding. It was very hard at first, then it started to get serious: I was beginning to think I didn't need to ride after all! :shit:
One of the hardest moments was mere days into the "not riding" period, when I was stuck in a bus in Germany and Switzerland on a gloriously sunny day, watching bikers out'n'about on fantastic riding roads in hills near the Black Forest.
