250cc riders....how long did you keep the stock tyres?

Hi there

Just curious as to how many k's you did on the stock tyres of your 250 before you changed them.

My first Hyo, I bought on 4,000 k's and I kept the stock Shinko tyres on until I wrote the bike off in a crash after it had done about 12,000 k's. I wanted to keep the stock tyres on as long as possible in order to save money but the crash I was in was largely related to the tyres slipping on the wet surface, something other riders told me a decent set of tyres would have possibly prevented.

When I got my next bike, also a Hyo, it had done 19,000 k's and although the rear tyre had been changed, the front was still stock, Needless to say I got rid of both tyres as quick as I could. The rear was a Kenda and although it wasn't a bad tyre, it was pretty worn and I lost the rear a couple of times on it which convinced me to change it ASAP.

I've now got Bridgestone Battlaxes on the front and the rear and both tyres are looking really good. Cost a fair bit, but worth it.

So I was curious, how long did you keep your stock tyres for and what sort of tyre did you upgrade to when you did change them?

I hear the stock Hyosung tyres will last up to 30,000km but they are pretty cold tyres and do not have good traction at all. I recommend if you have the money to ditch it for more sticky tyres from Bridgestones or Dunlops. But on higher cc bikes those OEM tyres do not last too long anywhere from 1500-6000km's.

Still on the stocks...12,000ks on.

I had the rear lockup chronically just this weekend...although I think the road surface was particularly smooth...still....it's made me think about replacing them

I got 6500km out of the stock front tire and 4500km out of the back, but that was with a few burn-outs, I really recoment continental "contiGOs" I just spend $500 on new front and rear rubber, but it was worth it, they stick like nothing else, but they are a very soft tire and I expect them not to last very long.

Well I did 12k on my shiko's, bad on wet road and OK on dry but got myself a
nice set of Pirelly's I can feel the difference around twisties, more grip.:2thumbsup

My bike came with some near new bridgestone battlaxes (BT45s) in it (still had most of the nipples)
I find there good when there warm if you can get them warm

BT45s are actually not too bad cold, even in wet horrible shit like tonight (Harbour Bridge was a bit miserable just now). That said, I think somebody told me there's two different compounds -- a touring one, and a `normal' one. Don't know of the truth of that.

my TDR has the stock bridgestone Trail Wings.they grip real good in the dry,not too bad in the wet,and do dirty stuff reasonably well too(like a girl i used to know:love:)

i guess Yamaha knew a thing or two when they specified those tyres way back in 1988
