Thought I'd rub it in.

Today I rode to Mapua from Picton.

But I went via Keneperu Sound and Collingwood. I took some pictures.

The road out to Portage is bumpy but fun. Quite winding. It's very similar to Queen Charlotte Drive. The seal ends not too far past Portage. I turn around there.

Takaka hill is always good fun. Made it as far as Collingwood and then came back to Mapua.

Can't be bothered putting the pictures up on KB, so just look at them here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=67909&l=20b65&id=696495759

Ha yourself
holidays? ... just back and recovering
not only rode a harley down bitsa what's left of route 66 but, courtesy of a wayside lunchbar encounter with a bad batch of chilli, i actually vomited over merikan motorists across two states ....

so who's the proper biker NOW, eh?? i mean - vomiting over peops? from a harley? along the mother-road? i think i've earned my tassles!!

ps - can anyone tell me what the correct Biker hand signal is for "sorry mate, i've just upchucked over your back fender" ?? :innocent:

pps - allowing for airflow and its tendency to make one get one's own back throwing up in an open-face helmet is almost as nasty as throwing up in a full-face ... *sigh*

There are times, when hand signals... or words (if capable of speech) are superfluous...

LOL. I am sure that does not fit into the last plan you told me about, but I bet you are enjoying it.
Do not let me ride it, last time I rode one of your bikes it cost me a lot of money.

But it still had it's moments. In a wet kinda way.

It was wet today. So wet even the bike was pissed at how wet it was. And it's a machine. Because between Hokitika and Fox Glacier, the bike forgot how to idle. That's right, no idle for Mr Spaghetti electrics, I'll just slowly wind down to a halt because I feel like it.

Very convenient, it stops the owner from having to operate the kill switch or key to stop the engine. Ducati think of everything on their bikes.

After Fox Glacier however, Mr Spewgatti remembered what the fuck it was doing and resumed having the 'idle' function. Shame, I was getting used to doing that blipping the throttle thing that so many other motorcyclists feel the need to do. Maybe that is why, their bikes also have the innovation.

It was very wet. But then, it was dry. Quite amazing really.

I took a dump truck over that road the other day, it gets much better after the seal ends.

funny thing is I got held up by a bike (a harley), nowhere to pass, at least not in a 3 axle truck.
I had to sit there cursing for about 10 km while watching this poor fucker deck everything out trying to pull away from me, eventually he gave up and let me pass.....I never saw him in my mirrors after that.

I take it you're aiight dude? How'd it happen? Will you go back to only riding proper Japanese motorcycles now?

The tumbling does last for an oddly long time when you're doing it, doesn't it.

Who's laughing now, eh?!Yeah, that's the price you pay for being a smartarse.
Glad you're OK though!Initial diagnosis was a broken finger. This morning it looked like two. Turns out they are just badly bruised. I have my first x-ray! I love the look of it, I'm going to get it framed. Left arm is slightly immobile, but getting better by the hour. Some bruises on my legs.

New alpinestars jacket, new Quasi pants, old Quasi gloves, middle aged Forma Boots and my party helmet all did exactly what they should. Oxford tank bag ripped itself to pieces, but amazingly my Pentax SLR and TomTom Satnav that were in it still work and look okay. Helmet looks to be in very good shape, but it'll never wear it again just in case*.

Looking at the bike this morning in a garage it wasn't as bad as I thought. The side it was lieing on was actually in good condition, as if someone had gently put it down in the grass. The side it fell onto (The right) is all a bit scratched up. I don't think the fairing is actually cracked anywhere though! Amazing. Brake lever is missing the bit you put your toe on, but the lever is still there. The tank has a ding in it. The windscreen is smashed to bits. Both the mirror/indicators are broken. The tail light assembly is a bit sad. The whole rear subframe has bent down towards the wheel, which means the exhaust system has got bent too. The swingarm has some small dents in it. The clutch cover has some gouges, but no holes. Matters less with a dry clutch anyway.

So what happened?

I dozed off. Not falling asleap dozing off, but more like just thinking about other stuff really and the corner snuck up on me. Daydreaming even. Probably thinking about boobies or admiring the scenery. What an idiot. I wasn't speeding, I'd needed to save fuel because there is no fuel in Milford Sound anymore ( :( The local cop also was irritated about this) and I could only ride so far out before turning around and coming back. Also someone had flashed their lights at me a few KM down the road. Warning me of what, I don't know..?

I got a ticket for failing to stay in my lane. $150. Constable Ure of Te Anau is a super nice guy, be nice to him and he'll be nice to you. Also Dr Steven Graham is a top fella.

I am insured up to my eyeballs. Even my gear.

* Except at parties.

Oh yea. If it were to be written off, I already have crazy ideas of a bigger sprocket on back, high bars, no baffles and removing the fairings...
