Yup, they've upped the capacity another 100cc.

It's not quite that simple. Like when Ducati were trying to keep below 900cc, it was 851, 888; below one litre it was 900, 916, 996, 998, 999. Now they're staying below 1200cc (for the time being), to stay within WSB rules.
Often times, the number doesn't reflect the displacement anyway.

Are you sure? I make it 67.06509476 cubic inches. So, If you were to use Swedish rounding to 2 decimal points, that would make it 67.07 cubic inches.

Maybe this explains their reliability issues. Their tolerances are way out.

Still remains to be seen though if this strategy will piss off more of their followers than it pleases!!!

The 1198s now also gets traction control.

I'd love to try that on a rainy day.

But for that money I'd expect a slipper clutch too. Seems like a more usable feature than tc...

The 1198 was always expected as a logical model update and should sell well providing people can get a decent trade on their 1098's. Ducatisti can also cream their jeans over the Streetfighter (top of the range Monster replacement), voted the best looking bike at the 2008 Milan show. http://www.ducati.com/news/08/news024/news024.jhtml

Apparently the reason Ducati wont call it the 1199 is because they are trying to distance themselves from the 999, which, to them, was a commercial failure. So ending it with an 8 I guess sounds closer to the 998.

I think that was more specificly aimed at the 848.

The 848 is actually 849cc but they avoided that label to distance it from the steaming pile of dung that is the 749.

Now I am pissed Ducati are gonna do the 1198 in white!! There were three reasons why I traded my 996 on an 848 instead of a 1098:
1 - the 848 has a wet clutch
2 - I heard the 1098 was gonna be (kinda) outdated pretty quickly based on the fact the 1098R was 100cc bigger.
3 - You could only get 848's in white!

There were whispers of this happening a year ago and that the 1098 would be an interim capacity bike.
Apparently 1098 stock is US$16500 bout NZ$30000
the 1198 is US$22000 bout NZ$39000 this is a bit of a pissoff as far as im concerned and to be frank if i had the choice and the $$ i would be upgrading to the larger capacity bike in saying that the 1098 will go down in Ducati History as the machine that really turned the fortunes of the manufacturer round and broke new ground in many ways.

I've read some places in the USA you can race the 848 in the supersport class. Can we do the same here or will it be bumped up to F1?

Its the USA formula Xtreme class. In NZ we have no such class, it needs to go into F1 or superbikes.

Fair enough too, the 848 stomps all over inline 600's with its extra capacity and twin cylinder corner speed/tire saving advantage. :wari:

The 848 may stomp over the F2 as much as the F1 stomps over the 848. It makes it hard to put it in a race class, I reckon.

Even my old stock 998 has to work hard to keep up with a race spec'ed 600 (on the straights).

Thats not surprising considering the rough specs:

Modern 600: 110-118hp (claimed) at 155-160kg dry - stock.

998: 123hp(claimed) but 198kg, its no wonder it needs to work hard.

Yeah. So maybe, but the mod 600's out drag the 749 in straight lines piece of wee's. Less HP and more weight blah blah blah. An extra 50cc and reduced weight would surly make for more equal power? MNZ? please? let us do it :2thumbsup:)
