Hi all

I went on the 1000ks ride and got home to find the paint on my new less than 5000ks bike has paint worn off.

Its from where my leathers have been rubbing, however i would of thought the paint would have been thicker or better wearing.

I spoke to the bike shop and we have taken photos and they have been emailed to buell in aussie, just waiting on a reply now.

Was told by bike shop that this is normal and buell may not come to the party and fix it.

One would think it would be leather friendly?:(

Gidday Mate,

I have an 04 XB12R and I have noticed that on the left side of the frame their is wear marks from where my or previous Owners clothing has rubbed. It looks like the paint has darkened in this area not alot but if you look you can see it I just put it down to wear and tear (yep its an 04).In the Usa you can get frameskins in Carbon fibre or the 3m stuff to protect the frame I haven't seen them here though.Good luck with the Dealer with a Bike as new as yours they should do something about it. I've got a can of buell frame paint for when my bike needs it.
cheers

Thanx for that, Mine has a blue frame thats most likely why it's more noticable, Looks like black primer comming through still not right in my eyes, If i'd known such a new bike was gunna wear so quick i would have maybe put clear 3m on the sides,

Cheers

Might be a dumb question (wouldnt be my first one lol) - but is it wearing thru - or a mark on top of the paint from your leathers?

Yeah thats what i thought aye,pay 20g for what!!!!!!!

You should expect more for your $20k. Perhaps you could contact "crazefox", as he's a painter local to you and get his opinion. I'd be interested to hear his take on it.
We are talking frame here are we not?

Oh so true! Take a look at a late model car in the sunlight and you may see how transparent some of the paint jobs are.

I tend to leave the whining until after all avenues for fixing the problem have been tried and the net result is nothing. It's a touch unfair to bag Buell in general and a local dealer by association when you haven't heard back from the distributor yet.

But what would I know? I like KTM's matt/gloss mixed finish.

Awww play fair James! I think bagging the bagger is a little unfair!

So does this mean I'm bagging the bagger of the bagger?.......................Bugger!

Really?

It's weird - I read that it is a early 08 model issue (mismatched oranges) that they are sorting for later ones - they promise to get the orange matching on all panels. Pretty good of them considering the price...

Or they should have just copies HD's marketing people and come up with a snazzy name for the different tones - like HD's flat tanks are call denim.

my r1 wore thru twice as quick as that, i was told its normal thats why people use scuff proof on the sides of the tank.

You know they call the touring versions of Cruisers "bagger's" in the US right? So now you're bagging the orginal bagger by bagging his sporty ride through associating it with a bagger.

I know what you're saying, but it's a public forum and you haven't given the dealer, the distributor, or indeed Buell themselves the opportunity to sort things out for you before publicly calling their product crap.

By all means have a go if they come back to you and say, "Meh, serves you right for having thunder thighs", but I don't think that it's fair play to publicly insult a company and their network before they've even come back to you.

Right now, there are people Googling Buell 1125R and your post comes up on the second page of Google results. The more people who look at this post the further it goes up the list.

they had simmular issues with the new CBR1k. Some of the bikes didnt have enough time to have the paint cured.

Well anyway, I have second skin on my bike aka laminate.=)

There are also known issues with the Street Triple Tank at knee contact point. Pisses me off no end as it takes the (paint) shine off such a quality machine. No excuses for it really

Mine has done the same-noticed it after the 1000k as well. I thought it was because I was holding on for dear life:shutup: with my knees!!
A friend told me it would do this so I just figured there was nothing to be done about it. (mine has done nearly 4000ks).

Let me know how you get on......

Hey Monamie,

Was woundering about yours aye.doesnt seem right to me that paint can wear off so easily.specially with such low kms.my thoughts are maybe bikes were rushed through as there was a delay..:argh:

Monamie

Could be something to do with the 25th ann' ones?
I can't say I've really looked at any others but yeah the paint must be fairly thin there to rub off so easily....or it could be our `thunder thighs' heehee!!
(think that is more for the likes of mine as it does not apply to yours at all:clap::Pokey:)

The guys are really good at Welly MC (if you got it from there)...if it is a design fault they will fix it for sure.
I just got a recall letter for my windscreen too...something about it flying off at high speed..how exciting. I will be making a trip down to Welly soon as I think they are just replacing the rubber bungs that hold it on with something more substantial. I will mention the paint and see what they suggest.

All in all though...man I love my bike. Went to BOP and back last week and it was just mint:drool:

"Nice to see that other bikes .Having their own wearout area's...

fuck an yea its a public forum...good on you raising a question..

and indeed there appear to be faults that other riders are finding common...

some of ya's wet weather gear can cut through the clear-coat on a finish..as to rough leather...might need clear plastic applied to the area involved with fade wear

From what i can see balzy didn't bag out the company and never said anythng about buell being crap!!!! This like someone else said is a public forum, Dosent that in it's self mean you share your views and stuff? All balzy wants is some advice and info from like minded people and not to bag out buell, I guess some people have nothing better to do than moan about what others write, LOL, Good luck with the paint job situation balzy, If Buell don't come to the party( which i'm sure they will ) you have some good advice from people here, Do let us know how you get on and good luck:Punk:

Some people think I have overdosed on Buell koolaide.
I've met the man and am friends with 'his people'.
If every company of 183 employees was as passionate about their product and as well intentioned as they try and be - the world would be a better place.

M&W aren't responsible for that decision.
Harley-Davidson Australia are the distributors and warrantors.

He didn't call their product crap. He simply stated that some paint had rubbed off, which it had, and asked if anyone else had had the same issue.

He then promptly reported on how the distributors are being good cunts and fixing it up for him.

Works for me.

Yes, Yes they should get a room:bleh:

I am Balzy's better half and I wish all the missinformed little boys here who keep refering to his 1125R as being or having harley anything would wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!

It's an effort at breaking away from "harley" and i must say it a fucking awsum effort:woohoo:

We all ride what we do for whatever reason and everone is so quick to judge, Yeh yeh i know i can hear you all saying......what would you know your just a chick and ya don't even have a bike(yet)

Before i go i'd like to thank you Jrandom......Your the only one who backed balzy when james was so quick to say he was slagging them off(which he wasen't) All he was after was some info on maybe others who experienced the same thing & it's quite surprising just how many had.

It's what's at the end of the rods that I particularly like.

Hydraulic self adjusters. No shims, no cam chains, no tensioners and were amongst the first with 8k service intervals.

The 1125R has a combination of mechanical and shim operated valves however.

The sound isn't bad either. I like the belt drive, nice simple engine, good efficiency. The poor reputation keeps the prices where I want them too.

Mine has been more reliable than my European bikes - and some of my Japanese. And at the same time not as good as several other japs I've owned.

The only time it has stranded me was a broken belt.
