Another Kiwibiker to the starting grid

Yup all is looking good, the bike is being picked up on Saturday, what is it ???
well its a Suzuki GSXR400 1992 model.
In partnership with MidLcrises who wants to do some track days which He will definately enjoy, and for me I will be getting in into track shape (whatever that is) and hopefully starting out in clubmans and or F3 class.

I cant bloody wait, I have done 3-4 track days and Im sure my riding skills have improved with it as I feel really confident on the track, each time I come in I am FIZZING so for me its a logical step to take.

Only reservation I have is what to do to get it into a good spec for the trackdays and racing, it needs a couple of small jobs done to it but after that it will be pull all the not needed parts of it , huggers chain guards mirrors lights etc off. Any advise on doing this or what to do would be hugely appreciated.

Midlcrises and myself will be tearing around a track near you soon

I'd love to be having a go myself, but I'm just stuck with keeping the ol' 636 on the road. The cost is a tad much for me at the mo, but one day.. Keep us posted on your progress, and I'm sure I'll see ya at a few meets around the place. I have a few guys that I know, that I go to see how they do, so a couple more to add to the list is only a good thing ;)

so it came off the road direct? put the rego on hold even if it means buying a month or two of rego, that way if it all goes pear shaped you will get better resale. and when you're taking the lights etc off disconnect not cut (benefit of hindsight). Same deal as MR, need a hand just call.

Yeah bike prep is important but no need to go overboard. Keep in mind that that for your first season you want a reliable confidence inspiring bike as opposed to some twitching beast so concentrate on reliability and maintenance instead of power gains. Your first goal should be to get the bike as close to how it was when it rolled off the factory floor.

Here is my tasklist I wrote up for my ZXR400. Its relatively unchanged since the day I got my bike (cept the reds bits which I've completed) - gained from lessons learnt from my first bike so might be some help. I'm sure others will have stuff to add.

Get your race licence organised NOW -its the one thing ya can't borrow.
I agree with HOON -Fit a nice set of tyres -theyll last at least 6 meetings/track days.
Mention to ya mate that he could do Clubbie and you do F3 on the same bike He'll learn a heck of a lot out there racing.
If ya want me to I can set her up to be LEGAL to race for ya.
take the fairings off for me and ill sort out catch bottles /sump wiring etc.
Just bring me the bike nekkid and bring a 75mm hose clamp and a pack of oil and a new filter. Whilst Im drilling the sump plug I can change oil/filter for ya.
I'm running dunlops which have been fantastic for me so far. Realisticly at your level you just need any decent sticky tyres
I'd probably score a set of race glass from racelines for it if i were you but heck Ive raced on stock plastics.
Buy a set of spare levers for it and maybee a set of crash bungs.
You'll need a pit stand eventually but as long as you're organised you can just use the sidestand and a screwdriver when you're in the pits.

Great to see, i'm still waiting on a new card reader for the NSR and i'm having a mission tracking down a place to get an HRC card for it :brick: But once all is go i'll be along side ya too, both clubmans/F3 and then F1 on the TL :banana: hmmm need more money. Any help you know i'm always a phone call away.
