is this a nice easy ride ?
Adamski
23rd November 2008, 22:42
Its fairly easy going. The main teack is longish though at 35kms or so you've had a good workout after each lap. Couple of gnarly hill climb/ descents where you may have to pick your way through the fallen. Great fun and quite wide open in many parts!

track looks liek it will be pretty awesome, few changes this year to the format which should speed things up, we will not be having a riders breifing as we are jsut getting to many riders to manage, so the track will just open at approx 9.45, thier will still be a lead rider but we hoep this will stop the big back log right after the start,
hope to see a few of the KBers there

Last weeks ride at Matatangi was my first on clay since '93 and I really enjoyed it, well apart from being roostered by the big barrel KTM's on the hill climbs!:shake: My little 200 was game but. I was dog tired afterwards.
Thinking of doing this one but no fun travelling down on my own.

Brother, girlfriend and I are all going to attend this one.
My brothers third ride. Should be interesting :)
Any gnarly hill climbs or decents on this one? Or is it pretty much rolling farm land? My brother could be in for a surprise if it gets tough. :devil2:

If it's anything like the Mangatangi event I did last week, and by all accounts so far I think it is, you'll enjoy it. Steep jack hammer hills and rolling paddocks with not a lot of tight stuff. A fast open track more suited to bigger bikes. But perfect for all levels.
Having said that, last week at Matatangi there were 4 casualties I heard of. One broken jaw, one broken wrist, one broken elbow (ouch) and some cracked ribs. As you rode around you could see sadly abandoned bikes. So yeah ride to his level not his (your) bike and (s)he'll be right!

yeah last night I noticed a wee crack, amongs the rust, in my subframe, got a spare subframe but that would take my whole weekend up swapping them over. It would be reassuring to know if their quads are equipped to return the bike back to base should anything happen.
cr125nz
29th November 2008, 06:47
ratshit to hear about that yeah there is usally 2 or 3 quads to help out if not im sure they can track 1 down and get you back to base can you get it welded just for the weekend and then u no it will be ok and after the weekend do the change over then.

yeah it would be nice to just throw a bit of bird shit on it but it's right on the mounting bracket and hard to get at. The one that supports the motor casing nearest to the front sprocket. All the other mounting brackets are sweet and normally I wouldn't worry but seeing as it is so close to where all the power is sent out the bracket must go through a bit of stress.

Some of those sudden drops gave me a surprise, faaark... what the...hang on... and somehow I didn't fall off, got whiplash on one of the landings tho', startin to feel it now. Loved the bogs, got the bike up to the tank in crap, the XR was like a pig in mud. Absolutely fell in luv with my supertrapp tractoring up those hills. Kinda got lost listening to the snarling.
Yep all in all had a great day!!

Yes on that note, thanks to all that helped organize and run the event. It was the first one I have been to and had an O for awesome time!!!!!
No major bails, did my first wheelie while taking a sharp left corner and did a jump up hill which got me 1 - 1.5m of air.......I traded the pink seated YZ250 for a much more tame RM 125 (yellow bike) which made the ride a whole heap more enjoyable.
Again thanks to all for the awesome day :) And westie for taking me out there!

I got caught out by a couple of the random drop offs. Although I cleared them all cleanly for some reason I decided to grab a handful of front brake after wards and washed out the front end. Only did that once.
Doh. That dry clay ground is pretty hard :P
Fun ride, but only got in one lap as SpikedPunch's bike decided it didn't want to go up hills anymore. Or anywhere else for that matter.
Bumped into Climintie and Sofie(?). Was a good ride, and now I have a slightly sun burned neck.
Apparently one or two people suffered a bit of heat stroke, which is hardly surprising. A few people in slings too.
I managed to empty my 2L camel back pretty easily.

Ooh yup, you two! I don't think it's too munted, it's just like the clutch won't disengage. So it starts fine and I can go up and down the gears but it's got no drive. I'm gonna fiddle for a bit and see if I can get it going, otherwise I might just take it into spectrum or wherever later this week and let them work their magic. Unless of course one of you KB gurus has a bright idea about what can be done, those are always welcome :sweatdrop
Good thing I'm busy this upcoming sunday anyway, I guess...

A new clutch is no big deal to install.
krad_nz
1st December 2008, 19:48
Sounds like you should give it a crack Punch.
Try fiddling with the clutch lever adjustment. I noticed it didn't have any free play which is a bit dodgy. So it may not have been getting full clutch pressure to the fly wheel and therefore had been slipping a bit all along. This may explain why it gave up the ghost.
Another theory is that its probably had a bit of abuse from a couple of learners :P
We did an oil change on it about 3 rides ago, wonder if we got the wrong oil or something? 4t wet clutch bike oil should be sweet. 10W-40 as spec'd.
Any special tools required for replacing the clutch? Torque wrench and a socket set?

Ooh yup, you two! I don't think it's too munted, it's just like the clutch won't disengage. So it starts fine and I can go up and down the gears but it's got no drive. I'm gonna fiddle for a bit and see if I can get it going, otherwise I might just take it into spectrum or wherever later this week and let them work their magic. Unless of course one of you KB gurus has a bright idea about what can be done, those are always welcome :sweatdrop
Good thing I'm busy this upcoming sunday anyway, I guess...
Oh crap never thought about having a look at it. Something to do with almost dying on a jump a minute before hand.
Is the gearbox fluid separate from the engine sump oil? If it is then only gearbox oil would do. Most other oils would make it slip.
Spectrum are awesome or if you want a hand give us a pm

Clutch shouldnt have fried theyre pretty hardy.. Have you tryed adjusting the freeplay on the lever or engine casing? Then dump the oil and have a sniff youll soon know if its fried.. Or give us a yell if you need a hand
