Went for a ride through the Waioeka on saturday and still cant stop thinking about it.Had to do it a cupple of times to make sure we didn't dream it :) There is a road just north of Matawai that goes to Gisborn could some one tell me if it is sealed all the way as it looks like it could be a good way there?

Oh Yeah, the Waioeka is good. Makes a good loop with the Motu road if you like a bit of rough too ;-)
The Koranga valley road north of Matawai (etc etc etc) is a good run to Gisborne, but it turns to gravel pretty quick, & its a long windy way before you'll see tar again. Which some of us see as a good thing :yes

Thanks. We looked at the Motu but one of the locals didnt recomend it .The trumpy's not too bad on dry clay roads but she gets a bit skitty in gravel esp 2 up

Hey, good to hear you loved it.
The road from Matawai to Gizzy is sealed...I drive to Matawai from Gisborne for work quite often and in my Navara 4WD it takes around 30 - 45 mins each way...its a fantastic drive/ride too :)

Yep its a good ride thru there. The old Matawai pub is worth a visit too, bit of a local museum in the bar.

The Te Wera road turns to gravel after about 5 klm, coming from the north to Gisborne. If you take your time and strike it right it can be good hard pack all the way through down to Rere, once there its seal and a nice twisty road all the way into Gisborne. Taken road bikes through there before.
Regards to the Old Motu road thats gravel all the way, narrow and twisty, but have known an American guy that took a Honda Goldwing and trailer through it.

Nothing to see here...move on...This road doesn't exist, and if it did, it wouldn't appeal to motorsicklists...move on...

There are too many corners out that neck of the woods and too few police officers keeping the roads safe.

We passed a cop in the middle somewhere a few weeks back. He was parked down the bank just on the exit of a corner coming from Opotiki. We were coming the other way and I just didn't see him, just the tip of his roof top lights but it was too late. I was doing just under 140k's and started to brake, he stuck his arm out the window and waved for me to slow down, which I did as I continued on through the gorge. Relieved. Coming from Opotiki you just wouldn't see him till he was behind you with flashing lights.
And for those of you who ride down that way what's the road between Murupara and Waikaremoana like. I understand it's about 105kms of gravel but what state is it in.
Cheers
