About time Maha got together a nice ride out

As I am dusting off my blue lovely for the day :blip: I would like to encourage anyone to come along and join us. Be great to see a few new faces on a Maha ride.

No doubt we will get the usual suspects (I hope so anyway) along for the ride, they can go and pootle along up front, while us more mature or new/inexperienced riders potter along smelling roses at highway speeds.

I will get Maha to put an event on the calendar to you can register. Looking forward to seeing you there

Last time we did this...a certain (then) Norflander met us at Wellsford, and just as got out of the 'public' eye, he vanished fairly quickly, followed closely buy a Spankin' new gold Triple. There were shit loads of patched road works all the way into Mangawhai...when I finally got to the Tavern, I asked the 'Saki' dude ''wheres Triple guy''?
Saki dude didnt know...Triple guy showed up some 10 mins later, took a wrong turn cos he could or didnt want to, keep up with Saki dude. Dat mans crazy, doesn't slow down for gravel patches....:gob:

It is easy peasy to find Sticky  Turn left at the top of the northwestern motorway, follow SH16 till you see the Murawai turnoff posted, turn left. Follow your nose and you will get there. Only advice, keep left on the Murawai Road  First time I think I ever used the "F" word as a pillion, was going down there 2 years ago, dick head car drivers that dont know how to keep left!

Nah, no need to Blat (at that time of the morning anyway). And regardless, conentration and confidence is better spent on the riding itself rather than worrying about whether your going the right way so more than happy to help out...

Nah, no need to Blat (at that time of the morning anyway). And regardless, conentration and confidence is better spent on the riding itself rather than worrying about whether your going the right way so more than happy to help out...

And this is why Mahas rides always work so well. Good on ya Lucklegs see you Sunday

Do your mirrors need adjusting?
You rode very well, young Ms Jody.
The only 'mistake' I noticed was you should've passed that slow, stinky van when he pulled over, instead of waiting till the yellow no-passing line and then having a tentative stab at it. And make your passing manouevres emphatic: hold back a bit, decide when you're going to pass, then get some speed up (using a downhill if you need some gravity-assisted acceleration). If you're following appropriately far back, you can still abort the pass before you're committed.
Otherwise you were fine: good lines, steady pace, etc. :niceone:

Oh - so you were the 'lost' KBers I went back to find. I waited for what seemed like forever, then went back to the previous 2 intersections (maybe 6 or 7 km), then gave up.
Never mind - I enjoyed riding those bits 4 times - twice at "walk home if you're caught" velocities.

Was that you behind me?
I was Tail End Vifferman, behind whoever was riding the VFR400.

Mmmm yes I was just going to sit behind that Van as I have never passed a vehicle except using a passing lane so totally new experience to me. I don't even have a car license so being on the road it TOTALLY new
Oh! You did very well indeed then. :niceone:
Perhaps some coaching would help there.
Firstly you need to find out how much passing distance your bike needs when overtaking vehicles at different speeds (70, 80, 90 km/h). Then it's just a matter of looking past the vehicle you're going to pass, and waiting till you have a couple of hundred metres or so of visibly clear space (with no intersections or whatever that a vehicle could pull out from). Then drop down a cog (if you need to), give it heaps, and when you're nearly up to the vehicle, move just to the left of the centre line, check again if it's still clear, and if so, indicate and pull out.
It's easier on a more powerful bike - you don't need much distance to accelerate in, so you can follow a bit closer behind.

Just don't be like the dick MacD and I were passed by (not someone on the ride) heading west from Wellsford on a GSXR - he passed us and the cars in front of us, each time coming up to blind corners. I was actually disappointed there were no cops on that stretch. And he was wearing unlaced sport shoes with no socks. Great if he'd come off at the velocity he was traveling at...

Some tasty looking bikes there yesterday, but the lot at the pub look a little dodgy :innocent: Sorry we missed this one especially seeing as we were on the North Shore Sunday morning, but we knew Chris' tyre would last the distance (again....)

Chris said you guys were too hungover from Saturday night , he may have mentioned a tyre.

I could be wrong:crazy:

What a bugger, on both counts, we left Muriwai at 11.01 and went up Taylor rd onto Peak rd and SH/16 stopping at the lookout for a regroup, then turned right at Wellsford and headed out through Tomorata to Mangawhai, we were at the Tavern. Didnt see a cop at all, pity you didnt have cell number of someone on the ride? That Monster looks gnarly mate!! ;)

Looks like a few ended up that way on Sunday, there were a number of Cruisers at the Tavern when we got there (well, when I got there) hence the wait for a feed. Someone mentioned theres a Pizza place in the village somewhere, an ex-biker owns it?

Well I havent posted yet as I was waiting until I too had something Witty and Insightful to say but Ive gotten sick of waiting, so...

Thanks Maha and Mom for organising the ride, twas good to catch up with a few people. Im a shy prick really, so didnt whore myself about the place and meet all of ya's but those of you I did, twas nice to meet and talk with you all and to simply put names to faces. Amusingly, in a couple of cases it was a case of the name only equalling the face after they posted here after the ride (Actually thats probably not amusing at all but just a random thought, sorry, as you were)

Good work with the photos OldGuy, although I was obviously just "too f'in fast" on the day (Insert Tui Ad here) as my photo on the way down from the lookout is a bit blurry and sans front wheel.
