Now i have your attention.........

I have it on good authority that the boys in blue(or at least white and orange)are well aware of the favorite pastime of many of our regions road racers oops i mean riders.

Take it from me,they know WHEN you ride, they know WHAT you ride and they are out to get you.

I am not taking any sides on this, god knows i like to give it some around our lovely hills on the peninsula, but a word to the wise:

They are out to "clean up"the roads, and they mean business.

take care.

Humming the theme tune of the Dukes of Hazzard.....

Answer, if you are going to hoon leave your plates at home, I mean who needs false teeth for riding, sheesh.

Gammaguy-you seem to have some inside knowledge on this. Care to enlighten us further? Are you aware what tactics the opposition may put in place? Timing of such onslaught and so on. Those of us who rely on the GP to keep our hearts beating would be ever so grateful........

This is nothing new. Cops have been WELL aware for decades of the popularity of this run. They may do a limited campaign in the area to re-educate a few bikes, but at the end of the day they can't persist in one area forever..they just dont have the resources.

As a rule of thumb I keep the speed well down on the straights...even the longer sweeping bends as most of the corners this side of little river are still alot of fun at 100-110kph..no need to hit the rev limiter beween 'em.

Once on the hill its difficult to imagine getting pinged because of the limited line of sight and the challanges of getting an instant lock on a bike (being a small target).

Unless you are being a twat and passing cages at warp 9 with the front in the air there shouldnt be a problem :Punk:

Boys with toys, what can ya do eh :wari:

If they know who 'they' are and what 'they' ride then why don't they just go and get 'them'? If I get stopped for speeding and I'm not one of the 'wanted ones' do I get let off?:innocent:

Excuse my thinking but this whole concept sounds ridiculous, if they want to stop bikes speeding on that road then I would think they would police that road and stop any bike speeding.

Unless of course their approach is to start this rumour :psst:and hope people believe it and slow down / stop riding that road. Either result is unlikely.

I find it interesting that I have heard this same story from so many different people and yet no one knows where it originated or how credible it is.

Is this like all the email rumours that go round and everyone believes them and forwards them on?...

As I understand it the police has quite often had a "checkpoint" at Tai Tapu, pulling over bikers for a quick word on Saturday and Sunday mornings... Even handing out treats on occasion.

Once on the hill its difficult to imagine getting pinged because of the limited line of sight and the challanges of getting an instant lock on a bike (being a small target).

Not to mention that once on the hill the amount of time you can actually spend above the speedlimit becomes quite limited. I'd like to see anyone maintaining an average speed of 100+ km/h from Little River to Akaroa to be honest.

Banks Peninsula is a lovely spot - but in during the weekends in summer you want to get out of town before 7 am or you'll have to contend with sunday drivers hauling big-arse boats over the hill for no apparent reason. The traffic is stupid and the cagers getting caught up in the mess sometimes tend to "heat up a bit"...

Despite being on a very fast bike there aren't really that many spots to do a safe and considerate overtake... that doesn't mean that it'll stop the more suicidal bikers from doing it on a regular basis though.

All in all I'd recommend getting a Motard and you can actually do ~200 km trips from Chch to Akaroa along all the lovely gravel roads without being likely to encounter any traffic whatsoever. It is well and truly awesome! Much better than having to suffer idiots on congested roads for 70 kms. But that's just my opinion.

The Akaroa highway has had some serious bad accidents on it over the years.

Some parts around Ellesmere on the homeward run can be very deceptive on the corners. Its where you get the horizon out in the distance and a sharp bend looms up from nowhere that can cause problems. Add sunstrike into the equation with a setting sun in the west and shit can happen real fast.

and incidents involving corners, sunstrike and speed are exactlywhat the police will use to justify their actions, however misplaced and ill advised that may be.
