Ive fucked myself <_<
Last wednesday at mx praccy, I high sided the machine and slammed into the bars resulting in a fractured collarbone. Managed to drive to the hospital and waited 4 hours to have someone put it in a sling and send me home with a few panadol.
Anyone suffered the same injury and has some rehab advice to offer?
Im taking high potency calcium and magnesium supplements to provide raw material for the bone reconstruction, also considering TENS therapy to speed the healing process....
Im expecting it to take some time to come right though....

There is no quick heals. Just give it time.

I managed to separate the joint between my collarbone and breatbone a while ago. It probably took a couple of months before it started feeling anything less than very painful, and a couple more to really come right.
Let pain be your limiter mate, it tells you when you have done too much. Get to a good physio too, holding your shoulder carefully for a while results in shortened muscles in your back. Time will be your best thing.

Mine took a while to heal, but it managed OK in the end. On one visit to the fractures clinic the specialist was talking about surgery being required. Three weeks later the thing had knitted itself. I've got a lovely boney lump to show for the experience!

youl be sweet. go to physio on ACC twice a week. they tell you what to do.
and just have in the back of your mind the fact that now your collar bone once healed will be TWICE AS STRONG ! :devil2:

I broke mine 18 months ago. The pain gets lesser after the first 2-3 weeks. I gave mine over 10 weeks before I got on the bike again. As everyone has said, time is everything. Don't try and be a hardman cause it will turn around and bit you in the ass. Listen to the dr and you'll be fine.

I did the AC joint that holds the collar bone to the shoulder. Took bloody ages to be ok without giving me a twinge when I wasn't expecting it!

I fell off my bicycle and broke my collar bone a few years ago. Getting out of bed was the worst part of it. I got back to the gym for light exercise after 4 weeks and then started slowly doing exercises to get and keep the shoulder loose. Seated row (just the rowing action done slowly with some weight resistance, rather than actually rowing was good). I had a trainer work with me to make sure i didn't do too much and was back to regular exercise after about 10 weeks.
I wasn't riding a motorbike at that stage, and didn't get back into cycling for about 4 months.

i takes a few weeks man, by my 3rd week i was up and about doin bits n pieces, best way to sleep is sitting up for the first few days, (i did for a week)
buy the 5th week i was back to work and at about 80% strong.
if ya can get out and a bout, go for a walk and shit it helps alot cos it gets the oxegne flowing alot more. the pain killers suck and make sure you get some anti-inflams they help big time.

DO YOUR PHYSIO!
I did my excercises and put myself back into the gym at week 4 for bench pressing. It hurt like shit! but worth it. by week 8 I was bench pressing only 20% less than "healthy" max.
It still amazes me how fast bones heal! Faster than ligaments!
Other tips, get lotsa protein in and take your sling off every couple of days and wash under it, otherwise no one would want to go near you!

I disagree. Get active as soon as possible. Excercising the broken shoulder actually helps the bones "knit". push through the pain to excercise the shoulder, just keep off the bike until fully healed!

I broke mine last year (check my profile pic) I could drive just after a couple of days and some tramadol.
They just let mine heal but took ages but my brother got a plate when he broke his but fell over and boke the plate so had to get a stronger plate,so had to recover twice.
Go get some pysio work to keep the joints sorted and take some calcium and shit. Good luck.

Holy shit, it come right off !
Luckily, Ive been lent an auto car to drive so I can get to work and home again. Can't take acc because the mrs is looking after our baby and were on the bread line.
Its been a week today and I have my arm out of the sling now and then. Christ, I tried to lift a cup of coffee up with my bung arm, took all my effort, only made it halfway to me mouth, and hurt like hell.
Im using a TENS (electrical nerve stimulation) device I bought off trade me. Have read good things about them with regards to bone healing and they also knock back the pain somewhat without drugs...
Gotta get into some light exercise in a few weeks ... I like the idea of a rowing machine with little resistance on it..

Im not sure about this one, My doctor told me not to use any after my wrist surgery Im sure she said it slows down the bones ability to heal. A mixture of codeine and panadol seems to work well for pain.

Yeah, I read somewhere that heavy doses of painkillers/analgesic's can stall the initial healing process a tad....
Im off to wander the neighbourhood now to spot any sneakers slung over the power lines so's i can score a tinny... 'medical' reasons of course :niceone:
The worst thing is I had to leave the bike at a mates house for a couple of weeks so i dont go out and fawn over it like a queer bugger..:bye:

Well, week two and its not hurting much now.
I can tie my shoes up and drink my coffee ok. Been stretching the arm around a bit, but it graunches every now and then and it feels like ive got a grapefruit stuck in there ...
Ive been looking at the evs neck brace for the future. Ive heard on some other forums it appears to protect your collarbone somewhat ...
Anyone got one and care to comment??? maybe scott will know?
Cheers!

I was back riding in 2 weeks, strap it heavily in straight strips (about 5) running from your back over your shoulder onto your chest

Keep yer sling and put it in yer gear bag. When (yes, it'll never be the same)you break it next time put it on asap to save some pain and the hospital hassle.

Chris Haldane won his superbike title with a broken collarbone (after the Britten snapped under him). So anythings possible.

Lol the same thing happened to stroud at manfield, i think he too had a broken collarbone and a broken wrist! Had a friend win a nz supercross title with a broken collarbone, i had to be at work the next week I guess it comes down to priorities. Its obviously better to let it heal but mine is sweet as now....
Actually one of the most painfull things i have done was going down the hydroslide at de bretts the day after breaking it. Thought i was tough, not so much when i got to the bottom!!! haha

It wasnt really either, i just hate missing out on shit and i happened to break my collarbone on boxing day then i was booked in taupo for holidays... The hydroslide looked like i could just go down real slow and it would be fine but it was way to slippery and i ended up hauling ass and at the bottom the corners got real tight and threw you around then i hit the water and my arm pulled up over my head! It was f*&ken sore man lol
