Being an old git I've been doing this for years .....

Transmission fluid (80w 90) as a lube ... it's what is recommended by most bike manufacturers too. Just apply with a salad oil bottle to the bottom run of the chain. Once I've gone all of the way round I use an old towel or rag (towel works best) to remove / clean the excess off. Job done. Usually do this on a warm chain.

Recently made a scottoiler thingy (minus the carb vacuum activator) from syringe and tubing (used a blood giving set with a wheel flow control but I'm sure that there are easily available alternatives) with a final output courtesy of the inorganic waste collection (broken off fridge matrix pipe). Doesn't take a genius to do just a little time. I had more issues than most due to the single sider. With a 'normal' one it could be neater.

Yes the bike needs a clean, yes you do get some fling off and what you can see of fling off is from the 1st attempt with the control being too open. With experimentation. I now have it just about rignt. Must turn it off when I get to work or it gets messy! on my 100km round trip commute I turn this on 1 in 4 runs.

See pics if I can get them on here:
