View Full Version : Overnight parking place in Taupo - Boxing Day

I'm taking a tandem trailer to the Taupo Road Race Spectacular. I'm leaving Welly on Boxing Day and will be camping in the van. What I need is a safe place to park the fully loaded trailer overnight...

Can any of you locals point me in the right direction? My budget won't stretch to the camp grounds at the moment (like I was hoping it would).

Any help appreciated.

The Gliding club, right next to the Taupo race track, will likely be having their Xmas camp starting on boxing day. This means that their ablution block would be open and there would be room to park a van and trailer for a small donation. Give them a ring and check up.

Bloody good idea! I didn't even know about that... and you're not even local.

Found their contact details and sent an email but no response yet. I'll post a response (if I get one) in the TRRS threads.

True, but while you're there you may notice a very sleek white/red single seat glider with the Letters ML on its tail. That is one of only two Jantars in the country... :woohoo:

I'll be staying down in Wanganui Boxing day night and riding back later in the day on 27th.
You're welcome to reverse the trailer up my driveway if you're sleeping in the van. I'm afraid security will be the fact that you're sleeping attached to it as no garage available at the minute.
PM if you get that desperate.

Thanks for that offer - that is pretty much the best I had hoped for when I posted this. Will PM if the Gliding Club doesn't pan out.

Just so you know, the drive runs between our house and fence up to the carport, (sealed on three sides,) and there's nothing visible really from the road.
I'll also let the neighbours know you'll be there if you do come here, so they can keep an eye on you and yours. Just don't run over the cat.
