6 months/6000km service?

Hi, I have a Yamaha Scorpio and it's got around 3500km since new, looking at the service manual it says I should do a 6 months/6000km service whichever comes first, and my 6 months would be up in about a month's time (around Xmas). Now... should I bring the bike in for a service in a month's time or can I be lazy and bring it in for a service around 6000km??? :confused:

Oh, and I do the regular checks but just like to get the pros to check it for a peace of mind ;)

Hi, I would not take it in until 6000km myself. Its a machine and can not tell time.

You can either wait for another month or just get the oil and filter replaced now. Regular oil changes would mean a healthy engine running on fresh oil. Personally I change my oil every 2500-3500km and that is about 6 months to clock up those k's

No but the brake fluid, oil, coolant level all can. Also why risk a warranty claim being judged invalid because you didn't follow the service schedule.

Simple answer is to ring the dealer and do what they say. Chances are they'll say wait until 6000km but at least you've checked.

Or do a shit load of km in the next week and make it a moot point ;)

If you aren't covering 6,000 kms in six months the theory is that condesations occurs in the engine cases and the oil can seperatate a little. Especially if it is in fact ridden regularly but less distance all the time.

A mechanic once told me that the best bet is to make sure that at least once a week I run the bike at least a 30mins under riding load after getting up to operating temp.

I am sure some people will come on here and say that is a load of tripe.
What is not tripe is that if I only just cover 6000 in 6 months the oil is not as clean as if I cover that distance in 6 weeks.

Do you want to keep your warrantee? If so you will need to keep to their schedule.
You can't service a bike too much, well you can but only in that it has a diminishing return for the damage to your wallet.

:confused: actually... damn you have a point, it'll be 6 months since new right about... NOW. Bought the bike around May, had it's 1000km service around end of June. Heck, I'll just get it serviced in about a month's time, work is driving me crazy at the moment I just don't have the time for it :crazy:

I'll be trying to get my full early next year anyway, should start shopping around for a new toy :clap:

True! I ruined an engine years ago by not changing at correct intervals. Condensation in the crankcase caused the bearings to corrode and that was that. Got them fixed but could not afford to pay for it so gave the bike to the shop man.......he was pleased. I was not. Service as stipulated.
