God do the Japanese know how to have some fun...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN3z1HhveBk&feature=related the guy on the NSR is so fucking good! that stoppie crash at the end is hilarious!!

..and they do this in the rain too.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5erdy08i_s

I'm not sure how many people know about this feat of motorcycling- but i find it utterly astonishing to watch.

Got to be the way to get good at handling bikes in the safest manner. Cranking the bike right over... at the limit, yet without the expenses and dangers of track racing. I'd love to get into this...

I'm seriously thinking of taking the fairings off of my NC30 right now! It's my dream to ride like these guys!

EDIT: All you'd need is cones, a timer and maybe to make some protection for your bike! We should start a Kiwibiker Sunday Gymkhana club I reckon... what does everyone think? I'm keen to start something this sunday if anyones up for it?

JOIN THE NEW CLUB: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=74 and help get this rolling!

All talk about Gymkana welcome :niceone:

lol, pretty cool!! Would be a laugh to give it a go!! Im sure ya could just get some cones & setup a track yourself somewhere & get mates to come play :2thumbsup

racefactory
26th November 2008, 16:56
exactly that seems like the beauty of it... and the competition would be so good! No excuses about the bike... but all in the rider.

For once 250's would be killing the litre bikes at something too!

Fuck lets do it!!! KB gymkhana club racing sundays :msn-wink:

LilSel

lol!! Wouldnt catch me doing it without taking fairings off first thats for sure!! ;)

Which one? As far as i can tell the first three bikes are NSR's with the front fairings taken off and running high/MX bar conversions

LilSel
26th November 2008, 17:01
They'd be pretty nimble to do that with I would imagine

I'd be keen! I've watch the videos before and i'm still amazed at how well they ride their bikes

I have some orange cones  do I get an invitation?

The car parks at Unitec are empty most of the summer. We should take over the main car park every Sunday for KB Gymkhana Day.

Oh yeah unitech car parks would be good.

I can't remember though.. what's the surface like? We need a decent surface at least...

Neon
26th November 2008, 22:10
I'd be up for this. An excuse to by a nekkid two-smoker to chuck it around in a carpark... oh yeah!

Would make a good spectator sport too - I reckon it'd draw a wicked crowd :Punk:

racefactory
26th November 2008, 22:42
I'm going to chuck some rough carpet down and lay the bike down on its side to figure out what parts i need to protect.

I agree it would be hell of a spectator sport too... all the action in front of you all the time.

Just updated the first post and thread title. Anyone keen for something this sunday?

JOIN THE NEW CLUB: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=74 and let's get this started.

Last time I was there the surface was in excellent condition. No loose gravel or pot holes or anything. There is a part where there's a big tree growing in its own garden in the middle of the car park - it would be excellent to include this as part of the gymkhana course.

There are of course security patrols at Unitec making sure nobody vandalises the facilities. We would need to make sure we were very well behaved and left everything in at least as good a condition as we found it in, and didn't make a nuisance of ourselves for the neighbours.

Decision made: I will be going to the Unitec carpark with my orange cones this Sunday at 10 am. My main intention will be to scope out the 'facility' but I may also indulge in some gentle riding around the cones, figures of 8 etc.

I can't imagine it being a great spectator sport. Most people want to see riders getting their knees down at breakneck speeds, not maxing out at 20k's. Would be fun thing to do for a couple hours in the morning on the weekends though.

I'm keen to come down with you and have a look.

I have managed to get hold of a set of rough 'crashing fairings' for my bike so i'm throughly looking forward to this.

Put the Bridgestone BT090's on today and they fucking rock i'm ready for this!

*note to self- it's not safe to get too cocky with new bike items*

Ok so who is keen to come have a look at the unitec car parks before the SMC ride on sunday morning?

Edit: I just remembered the perfect place... Albany RC car track... it is too twisty if you follow the exact layout but you can simplify the course and take short cuts.. it has curbs and everything... and a GREAT surface.

No it's not! we had an FXR150, two Hornet 900's and my Hornet 250 doing laps at night lol it's great fun :bleh:

So, went to my local carpark and was testing my brakes and ended up making my own wee gymkhana course out of litter (as you do) and learned a few things:
- Dont wear full leathers, you and your bike get HOT. QUICK! :shit:
- Decreasing the size of your chickenstrips is fun.:woohoo:
- Doing a 360 loop around a cup that moves in the wind becomes interesting.:sweatdrop
- Kids in green vans LOVE to watch.:jerry:
- Hornets can do stoppies even when the brakes need bleeding urgently. :D

My course is shown/explained in the photos and there is even a wee movie!(Coming soon to a screen near you)

excellent report mate! good to hear!

umm where on north shore is that car park- it looks MEAN.

meanwhile, today me and Andy R checked out the unitec car parks. VERY NICE surface and size... but fucking security guard kicked us out.

We must all head to that car park then, since you were not kicked out!

Btw whoever wants to go just give me a shout anytime, I'm up for it- until i get a job over the uni break that is...

give us the movie!

Fox Outlet carpark - visable from the road too, just past AUT Akaranga. Surface is pretty good but it does have paint :weep: Probably be good if we asked permission to turn their carpark into a Gymkhana course <_<

Really?! What on earth were you doing?! <_<

I've been to that carpark many times to practise riding around my little orange cones. Admittedly I was going very slowly (practising my low-speed skills) but I've never even been approached by a security guard, let alone kicked out!

Damn why didn't I think of that. Heh I spent a good part of today surfing Google Earth looking for appropriately large sections of asphalt. <_<

Looks awesome. Need to design some courses. Who else has cones?

I found another spot today.... it's behind the windsor park macdonalds on east coast road!! It's usually got nothing in it. There are 2 large bays. One has a slightly better surface but they are both very useable i think... lots of white lines though so no wet knee downs most likely...

Courses are easy, I made mine up randomly and it worked fine! just make it look painful and dont change it when it's hard
