I usually ride my pushbike around the lake after work for a lap or two. It's a nice little twisty track with fine gravel....damn,I'd just love to ride a motorcycle around there....but I'm a responsible citizen eh?
Tonight a couple of kids came hooning towards me on a scooter - they saw me....and did the inevitable....hit the front brake.Down they went, bike and bodies with bits of plastic flying off - they were sliding at speed right towards me and I had nowhere to go,there were shrubs right up against the track on the left side.So being a well trained trials rider I kept my course and momentum - and rode right over the guys helmet! I didn't fall off....but couldn't exit into the shrubs,so rolled off over them...very graceful.
The boys took off at first, then then came limping back checking out their gravel rash. They got a lecture from a grumpy old fart who obviously was never young once.....and a few tips on reactions in gravel.
They have to take the scooter back to their older brother now,and explain how all the broken bits suddenly happened for no reason at all.
The drama didn't stop there - as I get towards home there are cops ambulances and fire engines everywhere.A house over the road was on fire - totally gutted, not a thing left inside. At home they never knew it had happened. As they were still fighting the fire, kids were letting off fireworks in the park....duh,could be how it started.
