Just won a bid on a ZZR600 91' with supposedly 90,000km :angry:on it.Had been out on Monday in the pissing rain to take it for a testride.Had a quick look over it but it was getting dark and when I asked the guy(who seems like a nice guy) if he had a torch he surprisingly didn't have any in the whole house. It has play in the rear suspension, the low fuel light doesn't work, the fairing and the mirror on the right hand side is cracked, the left front indicator cracked and the front brakes a little spongy.Other than that it seemed to ride OK although couldn't really push it in the wet.

His reason for selling was that he wanted to upgrade to a bigger bike more suited to two up touring.Said he used it to do the Coromandel loop .
Well I thought the price fair for the condition and kms,$2500.:wari:

So I and won. Then decided to do a precautionary VIN check even though I thought I would be wasting $25. (yes I know now to do it before bidding, but one could go broke doing that). The bike has a 52,000km discrepancy in its odometer reading. It should read 143,000km not 90,000km.This occurred in the past before the guy bought it from a dealer so it is quite probable that the current owner had no idea. The only worrying thing is that he has only done 235km total in one whole year.

F$%K why can't anything be straight forward!:mad:The bike just has too many kms on it and if I had known the kms I wouldn't have bid:angry:

Oh what to do,? what to do? Remind me not to post I've got a new bike until I've actually got it.:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:I'm just going to have to go to a dealer and pay another extra $2 -3k for the privilege.

Well thats off my chest, all I want is decent bike, guess I'll have to wait some more.

Did you try Carjam??? Pretty sure they do bikes too. And it shows a fair bit of stuff. Try your own bike/cage.

The websites carjam.co.nz

As for your problem, well it kinda sucks! If hes not happy about you backing down you could offer him to refund the tm fee. That has worked for me once before.

EDIT: Only just saw how old OP was ahh wel all gud

He's done 235kms on it in the last year and says he used it for the Coro loop?
One loop is just under 500kms????? Sounds iffy.

Anyways, I assume you have cancelled the deal which you have the right to do even though it wasn't the owner (supposedly) who ran up the extra k's.

Keep your eye out on trade me and post on this site for anyone in your area to come and check the next possible machine out. You don't always have to go through a dealer if you or someone else knows what to look for and yep, when you are ready to make your buy, get that final check done as you just found out why. :)

Too late mate, he's already bought it, and been pulled over for the first time on it.

Sounds like he's enjoying it, so all is well that ends well I guess. :)
