The Kat got painted

A reasonable job done with spray cans after a bit of fun and games with the clear coat acting like paint stripper. So resand the tank and fairing and start again. a couple coats of primer, another with sanding primer. 2 coats of gloss black. I couldn't find any fishnet stockings so used bird netting instead. A coat of metallic green. The colour that my daughter wanted. Then 11 coats of clear to finish and a polish. Looks OK a few imperfections but 100% on what it orignally looked like when we got it. Tank had to be welded up heaps of pin prick holes and a couple of 5mm holes letting the gas escape. All fixed and bog applied and sanded back to smooth.
Its been so much fun and such a learning curve too. I'm not sure that I want to give the bike back to my daughter.:clap:

i got some of that HPC type paint you can borrow/use, if you want. got it from the supplier down in Palmy.
it goes for miles, so you wouldn't need much.
did mine a couple yrs ago; could prob do with another touch-up, but still lookin' good.

Looking at getting them ceramic coated I have been told its around $80. If not then a media blast and heat proof paint

It's "kinda" baked on; the guy (& instructions) say to run the bike to get 'em nice and hot before applying.
I got them dipped to clean them up, slapped 'em back on bike, got them warm & then applied it.
Don't think I really got them hot enough tho'. Still, looks way better.

Spray cans at $11 each from MWG Mitre 10
The Tinkerbell was photocopied on to some craft stuff called cold laminate. Its like overhead projector film with one side sticky. It was then placed into position after a couple of clearcoats then as many coats of clear as one wants to add.
Hint: After I had finished a mate told me I should have put the sticker on first then masked it so the coats of paint would build up flush with the sticker then the clear coats would be smooth over the whole tank as this one has a slight raised bump around the image.

Nice job. The only problem with spray cans (as I found) is if you spill fuel on the clear coat it makes a real mess. the clear coat can also start to cloud with a yellow tint....but I agree it's heaps better than it ws before!
