Ok I've got myself a 1999 kx125. Compared to the KDX200/220 It seems to have fantastic suspension, great brakes and a Hair trigger power band.
And OMG I LOVE it.
I've been pretty HO Hum to the whole roosting and getting air concept.
Now its like -YEEEhaa this is so cool.
SAcream up to a corner a lil tap on the back brakes clutch it into the power band and --WEEEEEE

Anyhoo can anyoe fill me in about them Anything I need to know?

Stigma with some people about being unreliable which is BS. More usable engine than the other 125's and better ergo's. Nothing really different to the other 125's to know. Just the usual maintenance. Think a 1999 is fun, buy my '07 and see how much difference 8 years makes :)

you've allready learnt in my opinion what you need to know - kdx200's are the most over rated bike ive ever ridden. welcome to riding fun bikes.

depending on how long ago it was rebuilt, do a compression test. this will give you a guide for how often you need to do rings.

rings and pistons are to be considered consumables on 125s

use good quailty mixing oil

most importantly, fang it, and be prepared to thrash your clutch!

if you conquer the 125 and feel like you need something more, get yourself a nice 250cc 2 stroke mx'er and learn what cheese, myself, peirce and a few others on here rave about!

one more thing - shouldve been a red one! :2thumbsup

You mean theres MORE of this crazy shit ?
Far out its a whole other kinda fun.
On my er lil track theres a nice 1.7m dropoff that means the front wheel is airborne goin down it and a series of uphill lumps that if ya hit em fast enough you get a bit of air.--OK to me it felt like about 4 feet most likely 150mm lol
What a buzz
Mind you --BEST bit was chasing down #1 son on the DRZ125 -hes a bloody natural

:yes: the 125 is just the beginning of the fun. i had a 99 CR125 from new until jan last year, provided me with years of entertainment. imagine twice the power!! :woohoo:

(probably not twice, but twice the displacement)

i just cant get the same buzz on a 4 stroke that i get on a 2 stroke.

I'm the same, 2T's have something special about them. I was faster on my 250F but had a lot less fun. It's the smell, the power delivery, the weight difference/balancing of them and not to mention easy maintainence.

I had a good 8 months on the 250F then bought my CR250. Won't be converting back to a 4 stroke anytime soon:first:

To me the 250 2T's feel like more than twice the power. I remeber getting on a mates 07 KX125 and wondered where the powerband was (no offence 125 owners), People had talked them up so much I think i expected a rocket ship. Got on a CR250 for the first time and was blown away. People had talked them up but IMO they were a f#*k load faster than what i'd imagined haha:headbang:

Good on ya for getting on an MXer over the KDX mate. It's all fun and games from here.

Im sure the cr is an excellent bike but i want to go with a manufacturer who actually likes two strokes.

It was no secret that Mr Honda hated them with a passion and was only forced to make them to keep up with Yamaha and Suzuki. Its a shame really IMO

i think it was because everone went to crfs and the crs wernt selling nearly enough. if ya wanna 2smoke, go ktm. the only manufacturer that acually gives a shit about and updates their 2smokes.

Yamaha are also still developing two strokes. Expected to release 2T with EFI in 2011 I believe. I am stoked I kept to a red bike. Was considering to swap to Yami, Suzuki or Kato but knew I'd always want honda and lets face it... the technology hasn't really changed much in the past few years haha. My CR250 was half the price of a brand new bike and must have had less then 10hrs of easy riding on it (practicaly a new)

Mine goes good, only thing thats abit of a pain is the clutch but as soon as we found a good oil it was fine. We ended up using castrol VMX 5 speed oil? well thats what the motorbike shop told us to buy.. and it seems to work great!
