I have just gotten off the phone with the nice folks at St Johns discussing a motorcycle specific course for us, we can have a maximum of 18 people attending it will be a 4.5 hour course, and we can either have it on a Saturday morning or one evening, the course cost total is about $835 including, thus if we can get a full 18 it will work out to about $46 each.

They will cover off
CPR
Bleeding
Neck, and Spinal (including helmet removal)
Head immobilisation
Fractures.

To some of you this will be old hat, but so what practice, practice, and more practice cant hurt, neither can training.

I need numbers folks.

I would do it so long as the date works for me.
When is good? Well, next year sometime. Weekend probably better, but not a long weekend... although now I think about it, I can probably manage doing an evening if that's the way it goes.

What is the $835 price tag made up of?
I'm very interested but damn, that's not cheap.

Edit: Whoopsy, thought that was each. Would love to take part haha.

I did think of Red Cross but my preference is St Johns, primarily as they are the folks who attend motorcycle accidents. We have the opportunity to learn from experienced folks in the know, Red Cross run excellent courses in industrial first aid etc but this is being geared towards motorcyclists.

Who knows perhaps we can gear up a training programme that other centres might run with, anyone got any contacts with ACC locally to see if we cant get a little sponsorship there?

I just a refresher course last week with City First Aid, they were bloody good, though a few years back did one with St John, and they gave out a little kit with book, and a blowup doll.... very handy.

Kinda my point. Most of us adventurers (not that your one any more) should be doing this sort of course as we're often a bloody long way from help should we need it. I know when I crashed I was thinking, damn I hope Plug and TA can cope with this situation. They did a Stirling job by the way.

This is an awesome idea and something I've been thinking about doing myself (but locally, of course!). When you guys do this, can someone post some feedback about it? I'm keen to see how it goes.

Just been speaking to SWMBO about this. She is keen to do the course as well as me, but as she doesn't ride very much, if all the spaces are taken by riders she will bow out.

I'd like to do a refresher, did a St John's course some time ago when Youth Worker but if I don't use stuff it slips away into the black holes in my mind :bye: So count me in please, preferably after Christmas, I'm away til mid January ~

One of the great things I have found over the yrs of doing these courses, is that the techniques have become much simpler to remember, as with child to adult, the methods for cpr are pretty much the same.

I am lucky my employer ensures all our certs' are up to date.

Will do no worries, I might see if we can get course notes that can be used by other providers, that will depend on St Johns.
