It's bated. As in abated.

Not baited, as in smelling like fish.

As you were.

Are you going to make a call on destination here a day or so before?
It would be a dam sight easier if this ride is a dictatorship, we tried democracy on Wednesday and it's broken now.:girlfight:

I don't mind organising :ride:

"BUT ANY ONE TAKING PART DOES SO AT THEIR OWN RISK"

& any one that's doing dumb shit and/or riding in a manner that is likely to cause harm to any one will be asked to leave :kick:

Don't really do gravel on my old belt drive bike, but I do like the option of a nana ride on Thursday. I can't take the bike to work on Wed and have to go home to get it, but on Thurs I can take the bike to work it's all much easier.

well now, this could give me a good excuse to buy an 250 adventure bike,
as I am looking seriously at relocationg back to CHCH for family reasons there may be the need for me to put some more things on my xmass goal list.

as for the rides themselves.
a good road captain setting the pace is always better than a free for all race.
the onlly part of the WNR that I found to be lacking.

Sounds like this could be a new beginning to some serious co-operation between good friends that will benifit us all in the long run.

It dont mater who is the best rider, or who has the best bike, its who are your good road buddies in the end that counts. The ones that you can trust with your life,

You hit the nail right on the head, its about being the best rider or riding buddy you can be espcially in such a big mixed group.

Cool I'll join in this one at least to Oxford. Seeing as I have to come home at some stage or Mr's Hornet might get grumpy with me, she seems to have more sting than I do and stings more often :spanking:

...but at the end of the tunnel they were doing road works, and we didn't want to wait. So we all went up that ramp on the back of the truck and jumped over the roadworks.

But then we noticed that there were 3 police cards and a SWAT van heading home after a raid on the other side, so had to evade them heading into town on our OMG SO AWESOME FAST 250^H^H^HLiter bikes!

But then it started snowing, so we had to raid a tire store, steal a bunch of SNOW TIRES WITH PHAT MAGS, fit them and then get away. Naturally by this point the police were unable to catch us, so we just cruised home (after doing some laps up Colombo street and pulling ALL the hot wimmenz!)

*COUGH*

Good ride guys, really cruisy and enjoyable!

Looks as if it IS possible to take the bike out too much in one day though, having taken it to diamond harbour and back earlier in the day. Either me or the bike was just not on the ball, as simply changing gear seemed to need a voracious kick to even work, and my bike was weak to the point of cutting out on me several times while supposedly idling.

But we can't blame the bike for everything!
My two moments of great shame were switching from neutral to first but forgetting the clutch, making me hang my head in shame. The second was on leaving the twisted hop, pulling in the clutch, starting it up, letting out the clutch and oh look we're in gear. Watching the bike momentarily leap towards the brick wall and car that it was facing made my heart skip a beat.

...I think it's time, in the spirit of the nana ride, to go to bed.

I agree with the dictatorship - just post a couple of days before (that would be Tuesday ) where you intend to go.

I like the Nana reference - too many group rides end up a pissing contest.

Bike in, body out has its place in riding, more so at walking speeds on sealed stuff, remember the tight u-turns, and we do it in shingle often (whenever the situation dictates).

I would just have to say a general feeling from both bar staff (or owners perhaps) that we were not welcome and they had other plans aside from serving another 30 odd people.

A call the day before to let them know you're coming would probably solve that.

JMemonic
13th January 2009, 11:19
Lol yeah it would go

US: Hi we are coming over tomorrow night, a group of folks on motorcycles.

THEM: How many will there be

US: Umm well there could be anywhere from 10 to 50 of us not sure really.

THEM: Well that's helpful umm thanks for the call.

And to be honest I doubt it would make much difference.

A repeat of what I have posted in the Wed Night Ride thread,
This applys to you guys as well

I have spoken to the short order cook at the Greta Bar,
To make sure there is someone there to cook you some chips!
They are expecting between 10 and 30 of us arrive between 7.30 and 8pm.
So the more of you all that come the better,
I should be waiting to join up with you at the Waikari turn off, :scooter:
Road gangs are in the area at the moment repairing small sections of the road on the main roads, so be aware of little unmarked new seal spots.
If it looks light grey, then it will be new with loose metal on top, beware.
So see you all on the road

Really great to catch up with all you guys.

Twas a really good evening, good roads, no wind, warms sunshine.
The group rode their steeds up the scargill valley road like a well oiled machine,
Such a pleasure to be sitting at the rear, seeing the stream of good riders pootling along between the sea of brown grass, fenceposts and tall pines. The sound making the wooly jumpers scatter from their evening munch out of the tender new grass shoots.
Even the cheeky magpies fled from the sound of the steel horses thundering up the valley, their armoured road warriors intent on their destination, a cold beer and a bowl of chippes at the Grtea Valley Taven.
Ahh the enjoyment of well behaved pootlin group rides.

Yeap Woodstock calls, mmmmmmmmm:shifty:

wets route?

thursday night usually follows the same road as wednesday night.

i think it's so the thursday night crew can pretend they were on the (obviously cooler) wednesday night ride in conversation.

for example I might say to liv in a few weeks time "...and all that livestock on summit road!" and she'll know im talking about the wednesday night ride where stanley kept getting sheeped. Someone who's eavesdropping or legitimatly in our conversation will be all "haha...oh yeah...that happened to us on the thursday night too...ha...fuckin sheep" and that's my queue to say "what literally?" and they're all "what literally?" and I'm all "fucking sheep, were you actually having intercourse with a sheep?"

and that's how I be funny.

Hi Rosie, I'm guessing by the last post that thursdays are on hold. It's a shame as it's the only night I can ride with the group.
I'm still keen to ride as much as possible however and, so long as the weather is ok, I'll be there this thurs.

They meet at the Burger King car park on Moorhouse Ave at 6 for a 6.30 departure. Turn into the car park from moorhouse and take the first left into the little burger king waiting area there.

I'm still keen to ride Thursdays if anyone else is. Let's see if we can't get them going a bit more that present, see who turns up.

Damn, I didn't see anything posted so thought it wasn't a starter for tonight. I guess I should have asked.

Still, a night in the garage putting a bike back together is almost as good as riding one.

Just turn up .... sometimes the rush between finishing work and getting the bike out means no one posts. Some one will take the lead and suggest a route and off we go. If no one turns up ya at least get a ride to BK and back :niceone:

I was going to head in for a look in case anybody turned up but flagged it in favour of the garage. On the upside the XL is a runner now, just valve clearances and a chain & sprockets and I'll be off playing in the dirt:2thumbsup

Burger king moorhouse ave at 6pm for 6.30 departure as far as I know.

No posts this week but there weren't any last week either and there was a ride on, so I might just have to turn up and see what's happening.

Edit: Looking like I'll be late, so if you're there early wait for me

Cheers guys but tbh my part of the ride (up Dyer's pass) was just awful... nearly lowsided when my backwheel hit a rock round a corner.
Was chased by a suicidal Audi driver to whom the centreline meant nothing in her attempts to keep up with me...fuckin scary. Then she went onto summit road in sunstrike and I think it'll be a miracle if there's not a cyclist death in the news or something tomorrow.
Then same thing with some bogan on the way down (Cashmere side, I was freaking out).
Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves more than me.
