Hi all... finally decided to put new shoes on the Prila and have some dumb fcuk questions...

As you can tell by the pics my tyres have plenty of meat left on the on the none commuter strip, when i get the new tyres on can I ask for my old tyres back? yeah yeah!!! what a waste etc... but a 14k round trip to work, crap weather, illness and new family members tend to do that...

Can the rear be recut where necesary? if so by how much?

If these can be sorted i'll be chuckin 'em on tardme for a buck reserve...

The pics show the worst areas of the tyres.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

If they're still WOFable, just sell them as they are.

If they're not WOFable, cutting new deeper grooves into them seems like a bit of a dumb idea. There's not much usable rubber between the bottom of the stock tread and the belt.

About 2mm in a lot of cases, not enough to regroove if there's no tread.

And how happy would YOU feel if the flash new hoops ya got for your scoot turned out to be regrooved bagged-out old shitters?

As I found out a couple of months back on a coro run, some of the new tyres pretty much have NOTHING left once the cut tread disappears. There's literally about 1mm and then it's canvas.

thanks for the advice... i'll ask at the bike shop whether they're still WOFable...

Shit no, wouldn't even cross my mind!!! I wouldn't for a minute retread them myself and try to palm them off... and wouldn't even get them cut professionally and sell them... it would be a sell as is and get them cut yourself if needed kind of thing... I would never put anyone in harms way (shame the mother in law doesn't ride as I may change that creed)...

From what I can see there's still a good few mil around 90% of the tread in the center, just the odd bald spot, but i suppose it's all subjective as to what a prospective owner requires from the tyre...

Definitely do not regroove them. And unless you have used a tyre groover before you'll probably f$#k that too:Punk: throw them away, don't sell them

If you are down to the factory tread indicator then they will no longer pass a WOF. The only value of the rear now is for a big hairy burnout :whistle:


Don't even consider cutting the tread deeper - there is maybe 1.5 mm tops of rubber before you hit the cord - ie nothing to cut. And in the event you did cut it and sell one, if the bike was then in a fatal crash, that under investigation was due to the cut tyre, it will be your door the cops are knocking on........


Ask yourself - how many cakes of soap can I fit up my arse?

Like i said before, i wouldn't do it myself, or get anyone else to do it on my behalf and ten sell them.

I know the answer to the bar of soap riddle... but that's another story and i'm the only one that survives to not tell the tale!!!

Dude, you've worn those Road Attacks as far as the wear indicator - and that means they are a bin job - no question. All worn out, time for new hoops, and your old ones are no good to anyone.
The upside ist that you get new tyres - COOL !
As a matter of interest, how many km have you done on that set ?

If they're worn they're worn I have no problems throwing them out, just hate to see anythign that's of use go to waste. I had 11.5k out of my michy sports, these only have 8.5k on them, so i'm kinda surprised that they're in the condition that they are... but as you point out, new shoes :2thumbsup
