How much would you pay for this Yamaha SRV250 (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=190977574)?

So I'm thinking to get something cheap and cheerful for a bit so I can learn how to ride a bike. I am used to a manual car (22 years of it before seeing the light) so I'm not worried, just conscious of respecting the differences from the 200cc scooter I have right now. I won't have to stick to a 250 to learn my bike skills because of a full license courtesy of the scooter, which I ride every day.

I reckon an SRV250 may be not too bad as a starter. The one linked above has done over 100,000kms and I don't need to stick to a 250, but they seem by all accounts to be a decent and easy ride. It will probably be cheap. I'm 1.78 and 70kg so a smallish bike might be good.

So much do you reckon I should be prepared to pay for it?

Cheers - Chasio

PS I fancy ADV riding eventually but cheap, reliable and forgiving are more important to begin with.

The SRV 250 yamie is a good little comutter, there are quiet a few road legal trail bikes 250 to 400 cc secon hand that are very adventure and road friendly the XT 250 is one that comes to mind, ask the question to the adventure guys and Girls.

The 250 sized laerner bikes still have inflated prices due to high demand.

So you might find a better value for money bike if you look just beyond the 250 size.
Saying that, higher lerner bike demand could keep the resale value high too.

You're not kidding! That SRV has gone over a grand with a few days to run. 250 madness at that mileage!

OK, I reckon I'll give that a miss and go bug the ADV crowd. I guess if I buy something that is currently not a learner machine but will be when the new rules kick in, I may be onto a winner... if I can wait that long before upgrading!
