Anybody else having trouble loading up KB from an xtra account?
My normal puter is my xtra broadband one, and it won't load KB at all today.
I'm on my clearnet dial up to post this
As far as I'm aware I'm not on the naughty chair.... :niceone:

Hmmm that is strange - I can't get on KB on my home computer which is an xtra broadband account, started doing this yesterday morning. I can get onto every other site I can think of with no problems.
I am logged on now through remote connection to the server at work - weird thing is we use xtra broadband there as well, though it might be something to do with business vs residential accounts?
I sent an email to the admins but nothing back as yet, might try talking to Xtra and see what comes of that.

I'm on Extra too and I can't get off Blinking KB, don't think that's Telecoms fault though.

I have had just the symptoms you describe before though, cleared itself up, which is good cause me and puters is like cavemen and spaceships.

OK, just been on the phone with Telecom and they are looking into it after going through all the settings on my PC etc and finding nothing wrong it had them stumped. Apparently someone is going to check out the KB side of things and do some other tests and will call me back after 12, so might have an update then.

This has just started working of it's own accord. Weird

xtra's routing is fucked. However, the droids that answer the phone will not even know what a tracert is, so they will not understand or believe.

Chnage suppliers.

Mine is xtra, it's fucked, i'm logged on through vodafone wireless.

Yep same problem here,
I have been on phone to xtra 3 times so far. They have no idea. Only way I can log on is with a proxy server.
As someone else mentioned I did try a new ip address but to no avail,
so maybe its a whole set of ip address's that are being blocked rather than random ones? So is pretty much everyone who is with xtra having this problem?

I just wish they would fix the damn thing. :2guns:

Restarted the server. If that helps I'll be surprised.

If anyone is talking to Xtra ip banning was disabled along time ago so it's nothing to do with the server. Only real possibilities are that Xtra's routing from certain ip blocks is rooted or one of the hops along the way is being blocked/sending everything to the internet black hole.

It would be handy to know ip's for people having problems so if everyone having problems could pm me their ip address it'd help. Ta.

You get your ip address by doing:

Start menu
Run...
cmd
ipconfig

That won't be useful for some people (as pointed out below), ie those whose ip numbers start with 192.168. or 10., so a tracert would be useful as well:

Start menu
Run...
cmd
tracert www.kiwibiker.co.nz

ok for those of us who are not tech minded & are not sure whats going on with the connection issues I have had several excellent explanations to the issues so thought I would share them

as per MT's post above if locate your ip address and it starts with 192.168 or 10. this means your going through a router which means it's internal.

Explanation:
Like, if you send a package to someone at a company it goes to the companies mail room. From there they take it to the correct department and person. The department and persons name make up the internal address. Outside the company you don't know what that internal address is.

Regarding the issue why some ppl can connect & some can not.
Explanation:
there's a whole lot of machines between us and kb. There's routers, switches and other stuff that all do slightly different things. If one of them is playing up, misconfigured or actually blocking certain ip's then it's what is causing the problem. But it's not something we can diagnose. We just have to try and bug the companies that own the machinery between us and the server and try and get them to check things out

so plz you very techy ppl, understand that some of us are not that puter savvy this helps us to understand :)

What a load of crap this is. I have talked to xtra helpdesk, Sat, Sun and tonight. I have a case number. I have also had a call from the networking people at Telecom tonight at 6pm. Spankme they do so friggen know about this, they are not interested in fixing it. One really intelligent helpdesk helper told me to take my PC into a shop to get it looked at? Seriously this was the help I was offered, even though I can access any other site, get my email etc.

I have been told tonight to email (suggest others do the same, many squeaky wheels must be responded to)

adsl_helpdesk@telecom.co.nz

quoting my case number and attaching my trace results. Interesting I got two different results two different days. I managed to trick them into allowing a brief log on on Saturday by resetting my ip #, worked once, cant trick the sucker again. Currently using a proxy server to access.

Logging in fine and dandy. No time outs. Thanks. What was the problem?

Regarding the issue why some ppl can connect & some can not.
Explanation:
there's a whole lot of machines between us and kb. There's routers, switches and other stuff that all do slightly different things. If one of them is playing up, misconfigured or actually blocking certain ip's then it's what is causing the problem. But it's not something we can diagnose. We just have to try and bug the companies that own the machinery between us and the server and try and get them to check things out
