Another group ride to night 25-30 bike's round the mountain to Opunake then onto Normanby RD thou to Normanby Pub for a feed & beer . Ride was crash free again . Followed a Busa round coast road till speed's got above 260k then thought Naaa will slow down & go at a more sedate speed & let rider go on ahead . Very hard for me as I don't like no one getting away from me . There may be light at the end of the corner for me ?? . All the same people come & chat to me when at the Pub .Did ya beat him , how fast did you go , couldn't keep up to you .Seem' s that when in a group ride people tend to ride way faster than they would do if on thier own so can you stop yourself from speeding when doing the group thing :yeah:

have to agree here, that last KB ride i was on was quite interesting for testing me. As i spent 1/2 the ride being casual riding at speeds i usually do while 'commmuting' then i decided to open up for the 2nd half and have a little fun.
On previous rides i usually boot from word go, when with other riders.
Opening up when your on your own is fun, but usually ends with an off or a ticket.

I voted yes but then that's another reason I got the XT.... 3 years ago on my VFR I probably would have answered NO.

rolled my first rally car by getting excited catching up to a car in front (considering they start at a 1 min interval my ego was in full swing)... just happened to get to 105% of my ability, misjudged the corner and over we go...

only done one KB ride, knew i didn't have the power to keep up with the big boys, not to mention the skill. left them to it - but gotta admit i nearly offed it early on by getting too close to my limit while following some of the less hardcore.

I know my limits, and like to think I know when to say no. Primarily because I've never really been into high speed rides. I know my limitations, and they're below the limitations of my bike.

I leave the speedsters go off and do their thing, I stroll in mid table, which is quite acceptable thank you.

On the straights and a few corners I would like to keep up with the main group but I know my limits. (or so I think) If I dont think I can corrner as fast as every one else I'll slow down to a speed I'm more comfortable with.

.
.I'm with Midnight82 on this one - I don't give a toss if I'm first there or last there, I enjoy the ride and some days I ride faster than others for no particular reason.

Na, i ride prety hard most of the time....funny thing is i seem to restrain myself more in a group than i do by myself.....i love my 7am rides, no cars, no coppers, just lots of corners, when i ride in a group i tend to ride at 7/10ths its just too dodgy to ride 10/10ths ya nver know what some other hero motorcyclsit will do. but in saying all that i dont like to be beaten eitha.

When I first went on KB group rides I was often drawn in to go faster than I would have liked. This had the postitive affect of making me more familiar / confident with my new bike. I was able to follow more experienced riders thru corners etc and it was a good learning experience. However there was a few times I was lucky not to bin it and if I had I would only have myself to blame.
Having a go around Manfield on Track Day (slow class of course) was a good exercise to put this knowledge to use.
However I have now changed from road tyres to adventure/trail type so I will be happy to stay within the manufacturers rating when road riding (which is still fast enough to get tickets/lose licence)Thats my excuse.
Anyway, I have found that in most groups there is usually a few others that go at a speed I am comfortable with and I stick with them.

I've realised that I've been too easily succumb to the 'big boys' who know the roads, and I find myself tailing them. I'm on (or near) my edge for a little bit, then I have to almost slap myself out of it and force myself to slow down. I hate feeling like that. I love the ride and the thrill etc, but then I want to see tomorrow too. I don't want to be an irresponsible rider, but I don't want to turn into a granny either! I guess I just have to run 85% of the status que and be thankful for that

I'm in the same boat as you, I like to try to keep up with the likes of the faster riders on most KB rides, but I know my limit's and I back off when I want to. I know I can go harder and faster, but at the end of the day the extra work and effort would make the ride less enjoyable for me.

...titanium is so yesturday :niceone:Just as well I got rid of mine. By surgery.

I try to push myself a little if there is someone just ahead of me who is better. But I still try to control myself. :apint:

Hmmmm, not too often I have to restrain myself from trying to keep up with others......but on the odd occasion, like when I'm having an off day or meet up with a certain cbr1000 rider,I will normally only push it 'till it feels uncomfortable then can let 'em go if I feel i should.....

Was there a "Do you get a chance" option? With me be such a nancy boy and ALWAYS observing the posted speed limit signs, how am I meant to make a decision whether to follow or lead that WOOOOOOOSH noise? :shake: :yeah: :apint:
