So I will be heading to Brisbane over Christmas and was wondering if anyone here has rented bikes from there? How much? etc
Also looking at staying at a Backpacker place (8 share dorm @28$!!) just wondering if they would be safe ? (traveling alone) - First time at a Backpacker accommodation too! does it get too noisy? drunks spewing etc? lol
I just don't want to end up at a $hit hole for paying less bucks ... I suppose you get what you pay for ehh :sweatdrop

Hi ya
I can't help you with cheap accommodation (my partner won't stay at anything less than 4 star, and she would find the idea of sharing with people abhorrent...).
I have rented a bike, but not in Brisbane. I stayed in Noosa in October and rented a bike from http://www.aussiebiker.com.au/ .
Noosa is a wee way from Brisbane (like an hour north), but aussie biker are based in Noosaville, so handy to where we were.
I only had a day ride, hired riding gear from them as well, and did a 270km loop through the hinterland. It was really nice. Bike was good, all I had to do was put petrol in it. ($14 worth!!!)
The bike I had was an 04 Honda VT750 cruiser thing. My first time on that style of bike (I wanted one of his F650 BMW's but they were all out). Hilarious fun the cruiser.... once you get used to riding it, and the first thing to drag in a corner is the heel of your shoe, followed by hard parts of the motorbike....
well recommended, but not exactly cheap.
they do transfers to and from Brisbane, but you might have to get a bike for a while.
And I thoroughly recommend the Sunshine Coast as a holiday destination (north of Brisbane). I dont like the Gold Coast (south of Brisbane) at all.
edit: these guys might be worth a look, too: based in Brisbane and all: http://www.ozmoto.com/

Hey
Thanks for the link! Looking at the bikes they look great guzzling types ... I highly doubt a Leaner rider could take one of those ... ah well...
Maybe next year on my restricted I'll give it a go

petrol is the cheapest thing you would put in them. They will all require a substantial security deposit (I think they dinged my card $1500 or $2000AUD, refunded when you bring the bike back). My all up cost including gas was around the $250AUD mark for the day including the petrol which was $14. the bike itself was IIRC $190 for the day, plus the extra gear hire, excess kms etc.
They will all require a full NZ licence as well, and probably have a minimum age to hire of 25 as well.

Lol -- look up my dad, he's just bought a third bike. And has eyes on several Ducatis I'm sure. Almost enough to start a bike rental business? :P
