Well after a fair bit of thinking-(yep I do that sometimes) I bought Mr12 a KX80 with a very recently fully rebuilt engine.
He's getting head around the powerband and is definitely starting to boogy a bit.
Thing is though to reduce the risks of him damaging himself I want to start running him through some riding drills.
But other than converted road skills what sort of stuff do you guys think he should practice??

Breaks, teach the boy how to use the breaks.
If you want to get faster, you better be able to stop the bike as well.
Most people if not all apart from the elite, don't use the bikes brakes effectively and they have so much more stopping power then you would think.
Set up a cone in a paddock and get him to ride up to it, put on the breaks and go around it, slowly reduce his stopping distance with another marker Eg start at 10m and slowly move it close to the cone. untill he starts over shooting the main turning cone. and work on that distance untill he gets used to it.

Definatley teach him the power of using his front brake! Ive only just got my own head around the fact that the front isnt going to lock up as soon as you touch it! I use to be skidding all over the show with my back locked up :pinch: Now i can ride down hills at pace with confidence knowing the ive got so much braking power up front! its made such a difference! (but then again it was more fun sliding the back into every corner haha)

When cornering make sure he's keeping the weight on the outside peg and/or outside edge of the seat. I sit on the outside edge of the seat and push my knee into the side of the tank to transfer the weight down to the outside footpeg.
So when turning left, slide butt on to the right hand edge of seat while pushing weight on to the right peg rather than leaning over with the bike.

Someone a while posted to ride with the front locked and see how far you could balance the bike...
Let him do wheelies. It'll teach him throttle control and rear brake control...
Practice sliding the bike around the cone on the rear brake, kinda steering it around, then he'd be pointing in the right direction to gas it out.
Oh yeah, keep elbows up...

Frosty go on the net and download the "Dirt Wise" torrent or buy the DVD! Everything you and your boy needs in there!!! Aussy guy called Shane Watts.
Has all the grip with the knees, correct lines and brake skills stuff mentioned.

as the guys said above brakes and corners are the go, a figure 8 circuit around 2 cones is a good idea, as he gets quicker at it get him so he stands up in between them,
