Try a marine supplier, I've always found them at westhaven...you're in Chowick? Try Half Moon Bay marina, there is a chandlery there which may have them.

Also, figure out a way to mount them on the bike before you go.....they bloody hurt if you stick them in your camelback and decide to have a lie down!

the ones me and my mates have had come with a mounting bracket, mount the bracket to your front guard with 2 bolts, then stick the extiguisher in the bracket. put some insulation tape around the extinguisher and the bracekt so when you crash it doesnt fall out. also wrap some extra tape around so when you crash real good you have more to tape it on with again.

can get these extingushers for $18 from a sports excersize equipment place on the pakuranga road, they used to sell them on tardme. i could dig up their email address if anyone wants it

With all that tape wrapped around the CO2 metal can, you're bound to break nails tearing it off in a hurry. Fires can get out of control real fast. You'd think by now they'd have come up with something soft to hold the chemical agent in, like a miniature garden sprayer. Sodium Bicarbonate is one of the best fire extinguishing agents, it can be mixed up at home. hmmm maybe theres a market in that.

B0000M
18th December 2008, 09:12
i was meaning wrap more tape just around the extinguiser itself as spome spare tape. as far as sticking the extinguisher to the bracket, 1 or 2 loops is enough.

at the end of the day tho, if my bike catches fire in the bush, and the bush catehces fire too, im not going to hang around with a pindick little extinguisher thats probably only good for putting out a candle, im fucken gone, fuck ya forest thats what insurance is for.

Here... (http://www.burnsco.co.nz/Products_28.aspx?CategoryId=40&ProductId=6605)

Ordered 3 of these bad boys. $19.95 each 0.4L. :niceone:

Got in touch with someone from Epic Events to ask if they required the extinguisher to be of a certain type. Ie: chemical, foam etc.... They had no preference so these should be sweet. They come with a mounting bracket of some description.

BUT part of the reason for every bike having one is that you should have a steady stream of supplies... hopefully, but of course there's Murphy's Law. The few times I've seen fires dealt to, the site has been littered with spent extinguishers.

Did you get an invoice email thing? The ref # is on the bottom of it. No important details, just reads back to you all the stuff you paid for & info you sent - dinners, t shirts, contact details etc.

That was great fun. Loved the expert parts especially the boulder field and the big berms on other parts of the trail.
My noisey rm125 made it round! even with a blown rear shock and other stuff falling off.
Thanks heaps epic.

Full credit to Lance on the rmz no 88(atomic) at the high jump for early showmanship. Bummer you and mike didn't make it to the last round.

No riding photos unfortunatley :( Kinda busy when those were happening. Wanted to get vids of river crossings on the sunday but my batteries died >_<
Had a great time. Sat was mint weather, great views. The sunday trail was def better, but I'd never ridden in mud before so it took a little while to get used to it. (not fall over all the time - I was a bit of a moving roadblock at the start, managed to get mysef run over :() The middle of the east track was my favourite, prob because it was less cut up due to people taking shortcuts. The mx track in the middle of nowhere was cool too. And the meals were yum, even for a vegie like me. Def be back next year, gotta show some of the bits I didn't do so well on what for! Good job epic events

Friday night at Sunbeam motel was a good one, good company and plenty of drinking.
Saturday
First loop attempted the 50km trail with Arven, Westie, and some others , got lost and went bush bashing, eventually found my way home.
Second loop, completed the 50km with Evil Twin, K6K and Arven.
Nervously lined up for the high jump, Arven was there to hold my hand and Westie and Neetz gave me the encouragment to not pull out! First jump was pathetic but luckily made it through, went big for the next round and flat landed, every round from here on in was the same, too big and overshot the landing, bottomed out suspension every time, made it to 4th man left and then got eliminated...I dont know how the others kept going, feels like my spine and neck are compressed, my wrists are stuffed and my feet are bruised.
Watched the enduro which was pretty cool, those guys have some serious skill!
We all opted out of riding sunday due to being worn out and crap weather, went to Taupo hot springs instead!

Good trails, good people, good food (Powder Horn Ohakune, $24 steak burger!), good weekend.

She didnt get to ride it, Taupo hot springs instead of riding seemed like the go on Sunday. Cheers though man, done my best but got pretty messy towards the end, I was sore as fuk from flat landing the high jump and my body was shutting down, wrists, neck, back all had enough! They needed to make the landing further out.

I came a door knocking Sunday but missed you guys, damn. Saw you disappearing all loaded up heading for home, next time is a must.
On Sunday I was one of the first out there and she was just like Riverhead on a good day. On my second lap the surface was mint especially with only about 3km of road as opposed to about 10-15k on Saturday. Still managed to take out a tree on one of those fast dark tracks through the trees full on. Tad lucky (tree hugger):argh:

Bloody big weekend with 4 loops of the big track on Sat plus the 30k and 10k and then 2 big loops on Sunday.

I have a question for the organisers tho.

The weather forecast was for showers/rain on Sat evening and on Sunday. Why didn't they have swap the tracks around so that the west loop with all the roads in it was on Sunday. Wouldn't have had a dust problem then.!

ha haaa, yeah i was going my hardest. Had a wicked run and a couple of slams. the surface was awesome and variation was wicked too. there were places with major grip and the slick stuff was cooool. i was all over the show! and the little stretches of road for a breather were just right (sunday).

The boys were a bit weakened with Brendan's collar bone and Dave's thumb and Pat got a flat. They weren't keen for another loop so we called it a day. That'd be my only disappointment for the weekend as i don't feel very sore/stiff and kinda regret not doing more. But it's no fun on your own or with people waiting for ya.

Yeah definately next time, i was gassing up my mates all week about how we were gonna kick some Aucklanders asses!! lol. I even had visions of starting a KB "trail ranking" thread! was my fault we didn't get to go for a blast so you're in 1st, i'm in 2nd and 4stroke's in 3rd (for not doing Sunday) lol

Did ya have a hoon round the mini MX track on the east loop? i had a major moment over the jump... landed with my front wheel in the sky... twice!

that's true about the road sections on the West loop, they were a bit long. they shoulda opened the east loop saturday

That was my first desert storm / 2 day trailride / campout. Really enjoyed it too. Must apologise to the boys for getting pissed all the way there and raiding the chilli bin at midnite swearing and making a mess. :bash:

The riding was primo' 4th gear whoops and all that good stuff. Enjoyed the rock garden, pretty straight forward loops with no nasty surprises. Wasnt over the moon with a few issues I had (extinguisher coming loose, slowing me down..) binned the bike once toward the end of the day and slammed my recently healed collarbone, suspecting another crack in her.

That dust was crazy! took to wearing my shades and chucked my goggles (scratched)... eyelids were welded shut when i woke up sunday morning, hehe, even after a wash in the river sat arvo. Sunday I took it easy in the morning, got my suspension tuned by ritchie.. and as fate would have it met chop and chris birch while getting a coffee. I was stoked. Went out to do the west loop on my own and eased into it finally finding my pace about 20 minutes into the ride. The rain we had was great! a completely different set of riding conditions sunday.

Ha' there was once crazy dude on an rmz 450 sunday arvo who insisted on riding the endurocross track about half a dozen times. ... shit, im sure every time he leapt off that bank into the river he bounced off that sucker, headfirst into the drink.:whocares: Talk about a stickler for punishment! good on him, everyone in the pits who could see him was giving him a shout out....

Good to meet (briefly) all the KB'ers out there. We will have to be a bit more organised next time and do a run together (drinks and riding!). As we all like to say, 'the more the merirer!' . Cheers...

Loading the boulder part up soon, takes a while... if you have good b/band, hit the 'high quality' bit just under the viewing bit, it looks a hell of a lot better.
