Yea , as per title.
City bound.
I go trough there often and by the time I get to it, the tyres are nice and warm.
Bus lane is my friend. A super huge right hand sweeper and wicked left hander to make it up in a nice shikane (sp?).
I love that on ramp

Are there any other ramps like that ?
I know that the last off-ramp to the city before harbour bridge has a nice sweeper in it too, its just a shame it comes to a stop at traffic lights.

Theres a mean long hanging right where the southern motorway changes to the south-eastern i think it is. Cant be sure of the name. Always full of cagers mind you!

I don't think so. Auckland generates 80% (last I heard) of the country's tax revenue. We pay for their roads, not the other way around.
Don't get me wrong. I don't mind spreading the tax around the country. It's just that I take issue with the notion that the South Island would be better off if the two islands were isolated financially.

Sorry Toto, but the best is the onramp at Rainbow's End to head south. Hard right, then immediately flick over to a left hander which largens to match your increasing velocity, right up to the apex right at the end. Perfectly cambered downhill - the only problem with it is that there are no others quite like it. :(

Isnt this one a single lane ? Onewa road one has a car lane and a bus lane that I do my run on.
I love me onramp. have you done the onewa rd on ramp Jafra ?

Very similar to one on the NW heading south, just south of patiki or something? Apex is right at the end, beautiful.
East Tamaki heading north has quite a tight chicane, dual lane for the right, single for the left (merged).

Is it legal to use the bus lane though? I have jumped in the bus lane to overtake cars on that onramp, but I always ponder the legality of doing so.

It's legal to ride on bus lanes everywhere but the motorways.
That includes the 'special' lane on on-ramps. You're allowed to ride on it. There was a bit in the Herald recently about it. The columnist got it wrong, said bikes weren't allowed, and then had to print an apology. Happy days.

Sweet, i wasnt 100% sure about those transit lanes that skip the on-ramp lights, but i always use the one by my place when it's busy. I figure we're allowed in T3 lanes, so a T2 lane should be even sweeter (though it doesnt specifically show a bike on the signs)
I personally like the Gt North Rd onramp, onto NW motorway heading toward city. Though it is all ripped up at the moment, not sure how it'll be once it's done again.

Yep, that on ramp is pretty good, specially when it tightens as you get nearer the motorway.
It looks like there will be two lanes plus maybe a transit lane by the time they've finished the roadworks.
Will be pretty sweet having a nice empty transit lane in the mornings when all the cagers have to line up for the lights.

Yeah, looks like that's the plan. Gotta watch yourself in those transit lanes tho, often a fair bit of gravel and rubbish in them, and sometimes a nasty step-up in the road level to get back into the normal lanes.
The one at Mt Wellington heading into town is especially bad... if you dont hit the transition at a fairly large angle you find yourself with a bucking squirming bike trying to make the 2 inch step up sideways whilst boosting it past the plebs in cages stuck at the ramp signal.

I love that on-ramp. Used to be my local.
Only problem is that armo waiting to rip off a limb if you arse it up. If it had a nice safe concrete barrier it'd be much more fun.

Yeah, that did kinda ruin it a bit. Especially when it tightens a bit toward the end there :shit:

Hehe yeah and at that point you're "merging" a little earlier than you expected :innocent:
The new extra lanes should make it a lot safer if you're on the inside. Seen many epic wheelies under the bridge there.

I really liked the old Onewa Rd onramp.
There was this awesomely tight circle complete with counter-rotating oncoming traffic. It always felt to me as though death was only a centre-line away.

Esmonde road northbound is pretty cool... 270 turn

Yup, love the Onewa rd interchange, in the same vicinity is Silvan Ave, a couple of awesome corners there, and if you are looking for a nice long sweeper colonial road down to the Chelsea Sugar refinery is one of my favorite spots.

No Sir, I don't like it. I don't like it at all.
It's badly wrongly engineered: too narrow, and not enough camber. I much preferred the old "steeply cambered, complete circle, tightening up just at the end" thingo. It was much more fun, and more 'technical'. The new one looks prettier, but is a cockup.

This one I like. First time I ever rode on the motorway after I got my restricted, I popped over to Barry's Point Road then on to the Northern via this onramp. I felt like I was leaning over to almost horizontal and riding at a million miles an hour (I was probably leaning slightly and doing about 60kph). I've never had another thrill quite like it! :2thumbsup

By the way, this thread is useless without pics! Where are all the screen shots from Google Earth and all the street view shots?

I suspect it's all a bit new for that.
EDIT: Yup, not updated yet - still shows all the roadworks.

Papatoetoe? It used to be better.
I like the new Highbrook southbound on-ramp. Coming from East Tamaki (not Otara) theres the 180 deg. around the roundabout then another tightening 180 degree left hander onto the motorway.

And an overbridge to bounce your exhaust off as you gather revs
