Time to get a rant off of my chest,

So my step father has been rather sick for the last few years (heart failure) so as a family we have been pulling together to help support both him and my mum. I have taken a few months off of work to renovate their house and make it a bit warmer and drier, typical old state house, cold and wet. This has taken me a bit longer than expected due to extensive rot etc. but the end result is that they now have a nice place to live in.
But here is my rub, the guy that comes to take my step fathers blood samples has got himself a little sideline, convincing, usually, sick older people to let him paint there houses. My parents took the bait, paid the deposit and now three months later have seen not a lick of paint or prep. Usual excuses and now he wanted them to let him start at the end of January. Needless to say that at this point I have had to step in. Went and saw the guy today to sort things out (read get the money back) and it turns out that he has spent the money. He has been given until friday to come up with the paint he has supposedly bought, the receipts to prove the price he paid for it, and the balance in cash.

People who take advantage of trusting older folk make my blood boil. then again people who try it on with older folk with 6 sons between them need to find a new career...

To put things in context my spidi jacket has a 5XL tag on it. Don't get me wrong, I mean this guy no harm but will not be listening to any excuses either.

watch this space.

Line him up and let me at him! This is something really close to my heart with an elderly Mommy living by herself. Dirty, rotten, scum. Taking advantage of older people is so far past acceptable it is not funny. I have told my Mom that is someone attempts to convince her she needs any work doing she is to pretend to be senile and hand over my phone number.

Good luck with the slime bag!

Hang on a minute... so this guy is employed to take blood samples from vulnerable patients and he's using that relationship to rip them off?!

Have you spoken to his employer about this? Or whoever he has the contract with? I'm sure they would be interested to know what he's up to.

Man, people like this make me so mad! I also have an elderly mother living alone and she's exactly the kind of naive person who would get ripped off by these nasty people. Good on you for making the world a safer place for all our folks, GTRMAN.

5XL - good grief what the shit is 5XL. I can remember when XL was the largest size you could get.

I suggest you introduce his anus to a 2l can of paint. If that fits try a 4l one.

I have a theory on that, back in the day XL was big, but that was before the majority of gear was produced in a country where XL equates to a 5' man weighing 50Kg....

and I am hoping for 10L paint cans.

To be honest I have only two goals, 1. stop my parents from being ripped off (and anyone else if possible) and 2. get the house painted (anyone got an airless sprayer going cheap?)

Eggzachery! Report this arsehole!

A lady used to come to see my nana - when she was alive. She was mean to come clean the house but ended up taking advantage of my nanas kind heart by sitting on her fat arse eating biscuits and drinking cups of tea. Then the dodgy bitch dumped one of her kids there so nana could 'babysit'

WTF?! These people are scumbags - speak to the employer and alert the ageconcern peeps too. Damn dirty bastards!

Scum sucking, bottom feeding arsehole! Get the dosh and then do as klingon suggests - this bastard will just keep ripping vulnerable people off if left to his own devices.
Technically it's fraud but the cops probably won't want to know about it, so dobbing him into his boss is the next best thing....or maybe a call to Fair Go/Close Up .......or (God Forbid) Campbell Live

I wish you all the best in sorting this.

Thank you all for for your input, I never realised what a militant group we are.

To top it all off my step father is undergoing open heart surgery today, I have been at the hospital with him, I found out that the bandit, even with me on it, isn't heavy enough to trigger the traffic control arms.

so I just went around them....

There is something deeply wrong with having to pay to use a car park in a hospital when my taxes and rates paid for said hospital in the first place...

This is getting to be a stressful week, I do hope mr painter muppet doesn't try and push any buttons

My mother's last years saw her cheque book permanently open to thieves and bleeding heart charities.
Started with the Kirby vacuum cleaner ($2400) which turned out to be too heavy for her, so she had to purchase a standard cleaner she could manage.
Then came the $3500 vibrating cushion (but hey, the chick selling it was a nurse so it must be good)!:crybaby:
FAI home security alarm for $2500 I think, that made too much noise and scared her, so that had to be pulled off the wall and stuck in a cupboard (she got a free fire extinguisher though)!
There were constant silly purchases, but the biggest piss off was her home help. That bitch’s sob story had my mother supplying her with fuel vouchers and helping pay her electricity account. You might not think that too bad, but this continued even when the bitch shifted 500km to Auckland and was no help to my mother at all! She and her boyfriend also used to bludge accommodation regularly and get this. The fuckwit boyfriend (50+ Bogan) had the cheek to tell my sister that my folk’s bed was useless for rooting on!
I was only informed about the home help after my mother’s funeral. Fuck, was I mad!

What is it with the elderly and their inability to say no?

Rant over and best of luck GTRMAN sorting out that prick!!!

FFS, and that person is meant to be caring for the health of your stepfather. I hope you get his money back, and then find the time to report him to his boss. What a lowlife; but sad reading this thread and realising he is far from the only one ripping off older peolple.

you may find the employer knows (maybe even gets a kickback?) so do copy your letter to Age Concern also. The best solution for corruption like this is fresh air.

Good outcome, GTRMAN. I would also be disappointed if this had no consequences for the guy, and especially if he managed to keep on doing it.

There are probably dozens of elderly/vulnerable people out there right now who have been ripped off by this nasty person and are too ashamed to tell anybody what has happened to them. I hope that by bringing it out in the open his employer will launch an investigation and try to find out who else he has ripped off.

If not, just let me and your brothers loose on him. :bash:

Good on you for getting the money back and I'm pleased to hear you are also reporting him to his employers, nasty piece of work.

I wish my in-laws were so gullible - they ring us up and say they need 'a few branches' trimmed off their tree in the front yard. We turn up with the pole saw and are still there two hours later, after doing a major hacking job on said tree! They seem to be of the "why keep a dog and bark yourself" school of old folk!

So you sense of self worth is based on speed? or is it the ability to offend people? sounds like you have some serious self esteem issues. What caused it I wonder, hugged to much or not enough, locked in a closet with a spider, late night sneaky uncle?

I hazard to guess that the anonymity of the internet really works for you, if you spouted half the crap in person that you do on here you would be eating your dinner through straw.
