View Full Version : A Merry BADD Xmas

Firstly - Gday Mods, throw where you want, as ya do:cool:
Id like to think anyone that knows the B.A.D.D story is convinced that drinking and driving kills, and its senselessness is preventable.
By now Im sure I preach to the converted here when I say;
Dont passenger with anyone who has been drinking and play your part to reduce alcohol related fatalities.
Or as BADD and NZSRA say: Id Rather Passenger a Sidecar - Than a Drunk Driver
Plan your night out and your way home while sober
Taking keys off Drunken Monkeys
Calling 111 or *555 if following erratic driving
Being responsible hosts, food and water and beds (Or floors).
Offering to sober drive and taking turns over the Xmas Holidays in your group, so everyone has a fair go.
AND DONT FORGET..morning after hangover will mean you could still be over the limit, dulling and slowing your reaction time.
Also understand that alcohol manifests itself in the body as ethanol, and can cause you to fall asleep without warning.
Alcohol will stay in your system for days.
Understand your limit..your variables, and your bodies capabilties
A 330ml can is 1.3 standard drinks
90mls of wine is 1 standard drink
Your body releases alcohol at the rate of ONE standard drink per hour, based on a healthy liver ONLY.
Attatched are WBOP Roadsafety Brochures, which I have kind permission to utilise and handout (Tauranga Info only sorry).

Dont forget our Badd Endurance Race in Association with NZSRA, Taupo Race Track 29th November to raise awareness of the consequences of drinking and Driving in the silly season.

Take it from someone who knows;
Dont Drink and then Drive, its Not Worth the Mourning after.
Go safe this Christmas and New Year.
I also want to continue to thank each and every person who has supported me, my family, and NZ.B.A.D.D.
Merry Xmas to you all

Sorry but, great to hear theyre out there already. I dont think all the responsibility should soley(sp? doesnt look right) be on the coppers, its a group effort, we are after all in charge of our own lives and decisions, and we are capable of caring for and about others and able to pull the dastardly pin if they can't.
I know for a fact that if any one of a multitude of decisions were made, I wouldnt be here doing this

Yea mate, it only takes one small thing, lots of small things make big differences.
I have seen it for myself, I know people dont think anyone can do anything, but its not true.
The smallest things can change the baddest of outcomes.
Thankyou Mate x

Not sure if this is the right place to share this but a couple of months back I had to go and do the Defensive Driving course to cut down my license time, two young (under 20) guys in my class were ordered to be there due to drink drive convictions.
When it came time to 'research the effects of substance use before driving' I spoke of the accident that bought about your campaige and I looked them in the eye, both looked rightfully ashamed, one of them had to leave the room to recompose himself. I don't know that I learnt anything by being there myself (I'd already done the course for class 1) but I like to think I helped someone else.

Thanks, well hopefully my boys death was not in vain, pretty darn stupid how it came about, unfortunately.
Thanks Miss.L maybe they mightve thought for a minute.

All the best GW with your crusade against those who selfishly make that decision to drink and drive.
I found your website so moving too. Everytime I hear "Brothers and Arms" on the radio, it reminds me of your story. All the best.
Merry X mas and a safe and happy new year to all.

Thanks for your message Wingnut:yes:. Merry Xmas.
I remember quite clearly a few Xmas's ago the two of us and family discussing that song as a euology, then dismissing it with a laugh..as if that day would never happen.
I felt it important to add that song to my boys Message and subsequent Legacy now.
As you know a very deep song, fitting to take the reader to the place he went before he died. To "experience" his coherency, and to educate the readers what selfish decisions can do to the innocent. That is one of Leons legacy's.
For anyone still keeping up with this message, I invite you to wear a White Rose on boxing day, to remember all the innocent lives taken in NZ to impaired driving. A Crossroads Road Safety Initiative.
