I've told countless people that are not into bikes that i'm getting one and they give me funny looks. I told my hairdressing tutor that i had to leave early just just before i went and did my learners theory test and she laughed at me!!!!!!!:Oi: Why do people doubt me?! its fustraiting!
Mum went to register her bike a few weeks ago and the person asumed it was for her partner! how rude! it pissed me off.:oi-grr:

Ok, with me now: DEEP breaths, slowly!!!! :D
I hear you mate, but trust me when I say the double standard has been, is and always will be there.
So eventually, one grows accustomed to it and eventually it's like water off a duck's back.
Honnestly, don't take it personally and just laugh quietly to yourself at these people. You have the last laugh by knowing the truth and having way more fun than they can possibly imagine.

somehow, ive never really come across it? worst ive had was the drunk outside the TAB who watched me get off the bike, lock gear etc in top box and then asked if i rode it. i looked at him and said, no, i pulled it out of my pocket. :apint:
just hold your head up high and ignore the judemental ignoramuses. in the end, you will see 1000 times more in a day on your bike than they will in a lifetime.

There is an element of discrimation being filthy biker scum (as I sit in my Parnell office looking across the city). Just shrug, you'll become immune. The fact that you're a chick makes it more so. Be elegant about it, they look like tools, let them realise it for themselves.

haha you gotta chill out, dont take it too personally. As long as your happy your riding then it doesnt matter what people think. Men get a little bit of the same when it comes to other stuff so the double standard goes both ways, lets keep it chilled

Hes right, but once you get the bike & stuffs, you turns into a uniquity from rare. Heres an example (I saw). I met a lady at work, and she rode a Moto Guzzi. Seriously how many woman rides a Guzzi? But she looked really really cool. Very unique, very stylish and very cool. It wasn't like "a whole new chaper", her image was a whole new book itself.
Met another lady at work. She rode a Ducati 748. Looks like the same lady but I'm not sure. However same property applied to her aswell. Very very very Cool.
My advice? Get an Italiano :niceone:

In my experience "chicks" tend to be on the back of a bike, whereas riders tend to be "women".
As for the ignorant masses? Pity them - just pity them. Turn it into a game - see how many you can find per week - and go for the record!

I love it when I pull up beside little litre bikes on my 14, then I say, oh, its a good girls bike. Likewise at track days I love it when asked, "what group are you in?" Answer, of course, the girls group. gets them everytime

Chicks who ride are hot, and when you get dissed, tell em what else can you straddle your legs over that is exciting, hot and throbbing and do it in public as much and as often as you can, and probably as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.

Each to their own when it comes to passing judgement, but its totally up to you whether or not you let it get to you. Why worry about what people think or say, as to me all the matters is what you think as you are the most important person to yourself. It really doesn't matter what you do in this world we live in today as you will never please everyone and then why would you want too, when all you really have to do is please yourself.:2thumbsup

I'm guilty of it myself :(
I met this lady at the RED BARN (the gardening centre)in south D the other, she was dressed to the 9's in wet weather gear (it was howling and pissing something fierce that day) I approched her for help and she was happy to oblige. So i told her what i wanted and off we went to sort that out. Struck up a bit of friendly conversation which went a bit like this:
Me: So, pretty nasty weather out there, what are you riding? (expecting her to say a Vespa)
Her: That would be my lovely red R1 outside!
Me: Oh.... thats.. thats a nice bike *picks up jaw* Thats a damn nice bike.
(she goes on to tell me it's her pride and joy etc etc)
Her: So you ride to?
Me: 'Yeah... a wee RG150' (I say, my penis retracting firmly into my body)
Her: Aw, nice, they go pretty fast when pushed (which kind of felt like she was doing the 'there there, it happens to all guys at least once' speel)
Suffice to say, that is one cool chick! much respect.

I've not been on the receiving end of "discrimination' really myself (or if I have it's never been memorable). One afternoon I went backto my bandit, parked outside the local mall in Manurewa and a group of staunch teenage dudes were hanging around it giving it the look over. I saunter up, helmet in hand and they start to move away. (I must look pretty scary). As my helmet is going on I hear "Auw, a lady rides it!" with appropriate auw, erm I mean awe, in their voices. Most gratifying! Especially as I got called a lady, lol.

I get that too PB. As a teacher aide in a high school, I often get to work with boys who have 'rather challenging behaviour', and not a lot of respect for women.
I go up hugely in their estimation when I mention I ride a Ninja (of course, i don't tell them it is a 500 tourer, rather than a screaming sportsbike tho, can't shatter all their illusions!)

What? Mummy didn't teach you how to feed yourself eh? I pity you...:nya:
My mum taught me the way when I was a baby.
The real problem is there's not enough lady types on bikes and there's too few to share around. Even ladies at all interested in bikes but don't ride are few and far between.
Just ignore the people that give you odd looks, and give those that think "hot damn!" a chance.

Are you allowed to give them the bash by swinging around and hitting them with your helmet?
I haven't noticed any surprised looks or recieved any comments. But then, I may have been too oblivious to notice, having recieved strange looks even before I started riding!

i think it's just their ignorance.a pure lack of understanding.
how many of those same people would laugh at someone with a jetski? or a boat? yet a bike is not only for leisure, but a credible form of transport.not to mention, more friendly on the enviroment.
it's these sort of people that need to learn to think outside the square.the world might just be a better place for it.

It's the same with many things treated as being in the mans domain (which they aren't). Take building for instance. My (ex) mum in law has designed and built her own house. No - she isn't a butch - just bloody intelligent and capable.
My partner is learning to ride and she gets always gets a surprised response. Either one of "that's cool" or one of "really, you ride a bike? (snigger, snigger)". The latter pisses me off she since she's a bloody good rider.
In any case, she shrugs it off... after all, they are the one with the problem and she gets to ride a motorcycle :ride:
You just have to ignore the morons... pity the world is full of them.

I vote yes. Just claim they were about to assult you. Only problem is you might damage your helmet on the skull containing their dormant organ.

Thats easy... some of them are quite respectful to bikers, others have a grudge from being continually stupid enough to take on bikes in races (and getting beaten well and truly). Even better was when they were trying to prove something to their ladies... I enjoyed those ones even more, and normally tried to mock the guy in the process or something like that.

Life is way too short to worry about what others think. There are a lot of judgmental people out there, who really have sad pathetic lives who just like to moan, whinge or put others down to make themselves feel good, but who really cares what they think, you do what you love to do and if that's riding good on ya! :2thumbsup

Personally, I dig girls on bikes. There should be more of them out there. Its all the guys getting defensive about women getting in on something that was predominantly a guy thing, even just going against the grain period! Same thing with trades, most female electricians get grief from the guys and most of the time they do a better job!
Just smile and nod and them, jump on your bike and ride away, instantly feeling better and forgetting them in an instant.
Welcome to the fun side!

I think we all have, I get quite a kick out of messing with people's assumptions in general, so being a woman on a motorbike suits me :devil2:
There are some ppl that have prejudice toward motorbikes in general. When I did my 1st ever "big" ride I was staying at a mates place and his flatmate said: "Why do ya want to ride a death machine like that?", my reply: "Cos, I really love riding a death machine" (or something similar).
There is always someone with some preconceived idea about almost every situation in life, so just enjoy being you and love what you do...oooo, that's very cheesy!!! :ride:
p.s The thing that originally inspired me to ride was watching a doco on 4 women riding across America together! I thought I gotta do that!!

Has anyone else had this before?

sooner or later you'll get to the point where you can look them straight in the eye and say "when i WANT your opinion, i'll beat it out of you..." or somesuch .... but it usually takes a while .....
they'll fall into line when they see you actually ride up on your bike .... until then, tell yourself you don't care
in fact, you shouldn't [care, that is ;)]
