Hello all, I’m Josh and currently live in Auckland and have JUST recently purchased a motor cycle. It is a GN250. I have no experience as the only practice I have ever had was about 5 years ago when I worked on the farm. I think I was riding a 125cc bike but can’t be sure.
Anyhoo, Kia Ora everyone....have a good Christmas and a merry New Year (2009)
Oops, any tips and info on alarm systems would be muchly appreciated

Riding is dangerous.
The GN is an alarm system all on its own. Get full insurance and then dont worry about it.

Welcome, Kia Ora, Harro. :wavey:
Have you done the Basic Handling Skills course?
As for an alarm, is it for the GN? If so, I don't know that I'd bother (overcapitalisation, and all that). Get yourself a good chain and lock instead.
If you really want an alarm, most bike shops such as Cycletreads sell them or you could try Jaycar Electronics if you want a 'less expensive' model, or go to one of the places that do stereos and alarms, if you want to spend some money.

Hi Josh, welcome to the site.
Sounds like you got a good deal there (GN250s are ridiculous prices at the moment!) Great learner's bike.

oh, um yeah i wana alarm. Ive had bad luck over the years with break ins..also, my brother had his 900 ducati stolen over night. It was parked at the back of his property with a cover over, also it had a lock thingy, and someone must have backed a trailer in and carried it onto it... Musta had a whole gang of people to help lift it. Anyway, luckily it was insured

Merry Christmas to you too Joshy 28
Welcome to KB.
My advice on alarms, they are noisy, they go off at the wrong times, and nobody cares about them when they go off. So effectively they are useless.
And get insurance, or a engine immoboliser, or a GPS phone tracker.

haha, its too late, ive already bought an alarm... ill turn down the shock detection so it dosnt go off, also, i wire mine to the horn so it shouldnt be that noisy.
Yes i should be geting an insurance. Is there am insurance company that mainly does bikes? or just the generic companies?
Also, because i have a GN/commuter will it still be alright if i did travel in the rain provided that i ride slow and safe? The reason as to why i bought a bike was to commute to work. I sold my car for this reason also because ill have many clients and would have to travel around auckland lots, different locations week by week and wouldnt have to worry about paying millions for parking lol.
any info would be much appreciated...Ill start another thread for this..CHEERS
