Is that $1400 in today's dollars or inflation adjusted for 2011?

Are we still expecting a large overseas crowd? :)

Good job - It's a shite game anyway. We are the world champs in the game that matters - LEAGUE.

I hear ya dude, just wish they would pump as many $$$$ into league as they do rugby.

Rugby is quickly losing its appeal as New Zealand favourite game... with prices like that they're digging their hole pretty deep. It seems like just another reason to get pissed more than anything else.

All going to plan I'll be well out of Auckland by that stage so shouldn't pose a problem for me unless the tourists get out and see the rest of the country

How much do the players have to pay as an admission fee?

I think if the rich rugby foreigners come over here in there droves I'll move out of Auckland and rent my house out to them..............So if $400 buys them 80mins thats $7,200 for 24hrs (i think) multiplied by say two weeks is $100,800. :2thumbsup bring it on.

seriously the whole competition is going to be a fucking joke, I used to think twice about paying $90 to see the AB's but $400!!!!!!
There going to have to come up with a better idea than a two for one deal to get bums on seats at those prices.

If you're basing this on what was in the Herald, read and understand the entire article.

Whilst I agree that $1400 is a lot (too much) for a ticket to a rugby match, that is the proposed price of a "premium" ticket to the RWC Final.

"Tickets for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand could cost anywhere from $35 to $40 to watch the minnows in pool play to $1400 for the final."

and ...

"Rugby NZ 2011 said tickets to the knockout games are expected to be similar in price to those when France hosted the cup last year, where the final sold for 200 to 600 euros ($490 to $1470)."

Still overpriced, but let's not blow things out of proportion and overreact !

So we'd still be looking at $500. this being the -and I use the word VERY loosely- minimum for 80 mins of footy?
Bugger me sideways, criminals havent got an hourly rate that good :D

It will be a great shame for the season ticket holders in each union who prop the game up by paying their subs, season tickets etc and then having to go on a waiting list to qualify for their seat at the game.

Happened here during the lions tour. Guys were told they could have 'alternative' seating because the decent ones were being flogged off to the posh rich lions supporters.

It's plain and simple corporate greed and that is how the game is going.

F**k them I say, support your local boozer and watch it there, at least you wont have to queue for 3 hours for a beer and it will be cold when you get it.

Saw the Premier League in the UK go the same way and it disgusts me, turning our sport into corporate entertainment is a fecking crime....

I'm basing my disgust on the average price their quoting for a similar quality game that we are used to watching for approx $90, even if you double that for a world cupits no where near what they are going to charge

Mate, season ticket holders aren't going to get a look in. They are going to have to join the que (if they can afford to) like all the rest..........I say all but I dont think many will be there!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning the proposed prices, just pointing out that not ALL RWC games (or seats) will be ~$1400.

I Absolutely sympathise with ya regarding extortionate prices and the season ticket holers - Rugby used to be great to go and watch. But it's been unaffordable for the average Joe to take the kids along to a s12/s14/NPC game for years..... unless you buy a 'family pass' type thing, but then you end up with the shittiest seats in the house and can't see about 90% of the game.

But it's not all about the ticket prices either.... I gave up on NPC/S14 games about 2 years ago, when FTA TV stopped. Sky TV and corporatisation of our national game has pretty much killed it off for a lot of people....

Agree on the ticket prices making it impossible for the average bloke with family, makes a mockery of there advertising, off topic somewhat but picked these up as a set made in 87,has some paperwork on the back with sigs, worth hanging on to?
