View Full Version : Riff Raff to invade Wellywood, New Plymouth then ride back to Orks

Now some of you might have gathered from the not-so-subtle hints that I've been throwing around that I will be getting a new bike soon, and that I have a trip planned to Wellington. Some of you may have even put two and two together and worked out that I am going to Wellington to get the new bike. Well you were right - give yourselves a pat on the back!
Soooo anyhoo - the plan at this stage is to fly down to Wellington on Wednesday (someone please remind me to book a flight), meet my new bike and hand over a large sum of money that has been clogging up my bank account, and stay the night in Welly (Slipstream has graciously offered me a bed for the night). I am hoping to catch up with any Welly mob who might be available on Wednesday night - I have no idea where tho. Ideas/suggestions? I then plan to get aquanted with my new beast on a ride to New Plymouth to see my parents, stay the night there and then ride back to Auckland on the Friday, or maybe even the Saturday. If anyone will be riding in any of those directions on those days then it would be nice to have some company.

RR: I've got a "do" till around 7.30/8.00pm on Wednesday, but if I know where you guys will be at that time I'll pop along to say "hi" and check out the new bike. (we'll be in central Wgtn)
Does someone want to organise a time/venue and post it?

And yes people it is this Wednesday, 16th that I come down. I just hope the bike transportation people who are going to take the Rebel down turn up tonight. If they don't then I'm going to have to ride it to Welly on Wed - how long will that take?

Bugger! What a trip to make. Can you freight the bike down later?Nope, cos I'm trading her in. I'll just have to leave at some ungodly hour of the morning. Oh well, it can be our last little adventure together before going bigger, better, faster, and of course when I'm old and grey I can bore people with the story of riding a 250 cruiser from Auckland to Wellington...."Back in my day, when t'sun were brighter, and young 'uns had respect, I rode my 250 cruiser on the road, that's right, road, not like these days on hoverbikes, and the roads were all bumpy and potholed, and ...."

We do have Suzuki dealers here, y'know.
A guy I work with bought his SV650 at Holeshot late last year, and they took ever such good care of him - gave him great loaner bikes, good deal, etc. etc.

Exactly. And it's a good excuse to enjoy some Wellington hospitality and do a bit of ticky touring. It will be a decent return ride for me to get to know the bike, it's handling and any quirky characteristics it may have. If I got it in Auckland I would go for local rides, but there are always lots of things I have to do that would get in the way of me getting in decent ride. This way forces me to take the time out to get to know it. And my mum can stop moaning about how I still haven't been down to see her, bla bla bla!

Dammit, will this day never end. My last three shifts I was worked into the ground. Today we have done one job. Then Mr Trash emails piccies of my bike being unpacked from the crate, and it's all shiny and black and sooooo sexy, and now I'm bouncing off the walls in my excitement (think of Frosty in serious hyperactive mode and you'll know what I'm like at the moment!!!)

Hi everybody
Thanks for all the concern. Made it safely and without getting a ticket - shit there were a lot of :Police: out there tho - good job they weren't around when the little needle couldn't go round any further!!! (and yes it was downhill).
Had some scary moments between Cambridge and Taupo with lots of fog - visor was misted up inside and out, and so were my glasses, cages right up my ass, and no where to pull over to let them go past. It was pretty cold too, especially on the Desert Rd with a very blustery wind trying to push me off the road. But nothing was going to get between me and getting my new baby, so here I am. And what a beast it is. Farkin sexy. I've already had to shoo customers away from it!!! And it sounds sweeeeeeeeeet !! Can't wait to ride him.

Damn there's another customer trying to sit on him - gotta go!
Woohoo!!!
Nice one Sue! Can't wait to see your new bike.
Well done! :niceone:

I had few stops along the way as well - like stopping to put more layers on because it was bloody cold, breakfast in Cambridge, the stop to change my glasses to sunnies when the sun rose and I had sunstrike, the stopping 2km further along the road to change back to glasses in the fog, repeat glasses thingy several times in between bouts of fog, the petrol stops, the toilet stops, the cans of V stops, the luxury flake stop... and lets not forget the stopping to massage my bum and have a stretch.
Hey one thing I got to do, that I hadn't yet done on the Rebel, was the cruiser style leaning back, arms outstretched riding position (handy for getting backpack to rest on the pillion seat and take some of the weight off my shoulders) - I'd never done it cos I was never on a straight road long enough to need it. Man SH1 is long, straight and boring!!!

Sometimes, when I try pull a wheelie (which isn't very good by WT standars, but looks cool to "cagers" and the like), I manage to do nothing but accelerate quickly, looking like a dunce who isn't in control of his bike (funny that) :brick:
