Here's an absolutely classic pic taken at JUST the right time.

Ferry in the background with a Frightener (sorry, Bristol Freighter), a 737 and a Friendship in the foreground at what looks like Wellington Airport.
Obviously taken some time ago.

That IS a long time ago... I wonder if they were still pimping the NAC orange and brown or if they had moved on to the Air NZ blue and green by then!

I was having a look through some of my dads scans from photos he took in the 70's at Ohakea. Might throw some up if i get a chance.

Bristol Freighter?

I'd love to see one of those in working order.

There is one that has been restored to taxi-ing condition in Omaka, Blenheim.

Oh no way. Is that the one that was sitting neglected beside the airfield for many years? Last time I was down there was 1998.

Kewl! :niceone:
Fat ugly noisy beast, innit?
Does the fact it's only in "taxiable condition" mean the airframe's too poked to fly?

I want to see its ugly cousin flying - the Argossy. Currently sitting as a cafe in Blenheim.

I think it's after they changed the colour schemes over.

Pretty much but it's still cool though that they even got it to that stage.

I remember standing on the seawall at the end of the runway as shown in Nudey's first pic. The Argosy's must have used the flattest glide path because even 50 or 60 metres from the end of the runway you had to duck ( I wasn't game to stand my ground anyway) when they came in and the noise, incredible!

Feck, I do feel old. I remember the friendship & dash-8's. Last time I went on a Dash it felt like my nuts were going to vibrate off! :pinch:

Shit, I'm only 28, I supposed to be too young to remember those birds!

I know the chap who owns that argossey, when transit had their cafe closed, I rekon I could have bloody near scored it for free, but I had nowhere to park it.
pity, would have made a great batch.

I spotted the fuselage from the argossey that was cut up from the air once, not so far from woodbourne, but I couldnt get at it from the road, however, someone has cut down a shelter belt, and there she stands (well whats left anyway, so both are within sight of their old base.

That bristol wasn't so much restored, as just got going, it was exactly as it was when parked up 20 years ago.
I poked my nose in when they were working on it, cause I saw it was open.
the guy was quite excited to be getting it going......
I must say the flight deck was sooo cramped, I would not have wanted to be in one for a long period of time
