Im currently in the ACC system, and Im finding them to be INCREASINGLY frustrating. Initaily ACC was great, they offered me this, that and the other thing...which I decided not to utilize (home help etc). Then after a certain period of time..its like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I went back to work BEFORE recommended just to get get the hell out of their 'system'. Recently I took the option of getting some 'repair' work done at the insistence on several surgeons. Whale-oil-beef-hooked!! If I knew the CONTINUAL bullshit ACC would put me through, I would have declined. It is after all reconstructive surgery and not 'fundamental'. Im seriously thinking this is NOT worth it. Granted there are people out there that milk the system...but Im not one of them. Ive been put through assessment after assessment (waste of money and resources..they all say the same thing) Its like the bitch doesnt believe me or ANY of her ACC contracted Dr's.
Anyone else suffered the misfortune of having to deal with ACC?

Hey, while you're in there, could you fix it? Give it a bit of kick, or just tinker with the valve adjustment or summat?
What'd be REALLY good if you could make it so that if you have more'n one motoring vehicle, you don't have to pay more'n one ACC fee.
Or or or you could make it so our fees don't go up as much next year as they're threatening to makem.
Ta!! :niceone:

In the middle of the 1st gulf war (way back in '91) my dad fell from the 2nd storey of a building while working.
The experiences he, and his family had because of ACC and SOME of the doctors I cannot bear to repeat. Unbelievable. One doctor tried to say he didn't need a brain to work...Case workers 20 years old trying to tell him what to do.
I sympathise - but you need to hold on and be firm. Be a curmudgeon, but play along with them at the same time. Don't be surprised by anything they do. I think they are worse than the social welfare system.
A couple of years ago my dad was kicked off ACC onto the sickness benefit, along with thousands of others. He will be at retirement age in a couple of years, and hasn't been able to get a job since his accident.
Not much help really.

Yeah, I did, they were great. Bit of bureaucracy to get the claim processed but nothing untoward, there were some, ah, complexities. They paid for everything, booked me into a private hospital for surgery, and managed me into the care of my disability insurer seamlessly. Very happy customer.

I've had many surgeries paid for by ACC all as a result of a car crash.
Once you get a claim number approved, it seems the doctors/surgeons etc charge everything on it and all's well.
I have found ACC to be pretty good in my dealings.
I dont cause any fuss or aggro, go with the flow, have stood my ground on a few issues and its fallen my way.
However, I can see how their system can cause trouble for folk, and know of a few people that have had real bad dealings.
I think its a lot to do with who your case manager is and what their attitude is.
Also, ask, ask, ask for things you need, they wont offer.
So I've been told.
But again, in my case, they offered to rebuild steps at home, put rails up etc etc, and even get me a recliner chair for work so that when I feel sore I can go and lie down in the office on my Lazi-boy ffs........

What Dooly says is valid, but...
There are some very incompetent people employed by that organisation. If you are not getting anywhere with your current case manager there is a complaints process. I have been advocate for a bloke that seriously got the run around from his case worker, so much so that it was not until after our complaint had been lodged that an occupational suitability of the workplace investigation was carried out. This 5 months after the company ceased to employ him as his back was fuckt.
Make the complaint, watch the wheels slowly start to grind.
Good luck!
