Here is something for ya, in the states I was paying about $90NZD a year for tertiary insurance (http://searchmiracle.com/text/search.php?qq=Insurance) (or is it third party? whichever one is simalir to US liability insurance (http://searchmiracle.com/text/search.php?qq=Insurance)) on two bikes, my 1100 and the rebel250. this was from when i was 18 to right before I left to come here. I get here and i go in to find out how much for the same kind of coverage, and I'm told the same price so I'm like ok cool, get the paperwork and I'm reading through it and I notice something. It says amount due is a WEEKLY sum. I go "what the shit?" and the insure guy says thats how it works so I go "well since I'm not required by law to have insurance, I think I'll do without for a while". I cant afford that yet. Why its more than a harley I have no idea. Maybe I should shop around, I just went to the Yammy dealers for that sum. Maybe AMI or AA can give me a better deal?

Bike insurance is about $55/month for me, give or take a few shekels. Car is less than $50 for each car (2001 Peugeot 306, 1990 205GTi).

i pay way too much..
[Edit] actually, no I don't.. I pay in lump, so that made it seem heaps, but now I've just figured what that is a month.. and now I don't pay so much. Fully comp all up was somewhere between $900 to $1000 with $1000xs.. So not too bad, but would like it to be cheaper

I think that insurance actuaries work on the assumption that there is a 10% chance of total loss of a motorcycle in any given year. Therefore, just divide the market value of your bike by 10 and that should be your annual premium (plus or minus)?

To be honest I think it was some kind of offer Casbolt's ran when I bought the bike. So maybe my tasteless gloating is irrelevant. For a change.

Sounds 'bout right, with the addition of gearing for age and riding history, of course.

Yes, dammit. I prefer a bit of zing and spice to my gloating, with a hint of meaty rancidity.

Yeah,I'm a bottom feeder, seldom own bikes worth more than a weeks wages. But with the price of vehicles varying so much these days it's kinda hard to get an idea of how much things are worth - dealer retail price, dealer trade in price, private sale price,or how much some clown will pay on TradeMe.To me a bikes worth as much as it's worth to me - but how do insurance companies value them? I know they send out ex dealers to asess values, bit of a stab in the dark...

I have no insurance, but I got two quotes last month...
I am 25, with a 1L licence and a road-sport bike...
One option was for $563/year with $500 excess or $100 for theft.
The other was for $551/year with some odd excess scheme.
Although my bike isn't worth a whole lot, so that's probably not too surprising. I guess the trick is not to buy the expensive bikes.

I don't know. I don't have any official no claims bonus from the UK as I've driven company cars for the last 10 years. The only cars that I did own I managed to throw onto my employers corporate policies anyway.
The only crash I've had in a car during the last 15 years was into the rear end of my (at the time) bosses 2 day old Merc, and that was on government property so it was cosidered private land by the insurance company, so for some reason they didn't count it. :spudwhat:

I'm 52 years young and the bike is insured for $15,000 and I was told brand name made no difference, ANY 1000cc+ bike of that value would cost the same.
Insured with AMI and had one claim on the last 25 years (my dog ran out on road and used its body to wreck a light on a new Primera - $450!! dog was o.k.- until I saw how much it had cost me!!!).

I was with AMI till I brought the Guzzi, Ami wanted $1200 pa and a stupid exsess so I went with David Golightly his price was $400 pa.
So I changed , but DG/Vero have put there prics up someting wicked since that was 4-5yrs ago. The Guzzi was insured for $12k the VTR $15k so it went up again but only to $500-600pa

Bike is worth 6-7 thousand. Had no claim in 28 years $489.00 a years ( $40.75 a month or there about ) with a $250.00 excess with accident $350.00 if stolen or written off. The cost of the plastics is a big part in the value of your insurance. Street fighter is a lot cheaper than full plastics. So my insurance lady said. Ummm and the speeding tickets do not help. You could say nothing about them but why pay insurance to have your claim declined due to undeclared information. The bike is a 750cc so that helps.
