I know times are tough at the mo - but have a think about City Mission or a charity of your choice about now.

Just my 5c. That is all

Nope that's not all. If you don't think you can afford a donation of any sort (even a can of beans!) then how about some time? The City Mission and Foodbanks are stretched for helpers at this time of year - half an hour of your time can make a huge difference to those pewople that work tirelessly all year round for these charitable organisations.

+5c makes 10c - that's twice as much as we had...

Thats what happens when you give lip service to a cause just because its trendy.

I have seen Indonesian trees, even slung my hammock from some once in the 1960s. There may be rather less of them now though.

Somebody in Wellington decided trees would make a nice gift for some people to whom we are grateful. They were going to send maybe a thousand of these things around the country. The original plan was for a coupla hundred or thereabout to be delivered to each regional office where they would have to be kept alive until the Christmas party at which the trees would be presented.

Not surprisingly there were cries of outraged indignation from around the country and that plan was shelved.

"Not thought through" doesn't cover it!

I'm self-employed so I don't give gifts but every year I run an auction on Trade Me to raise money for the local animal rescue shelter. It didn't reach reserve last week so I've relisted it, but if it doesn't get up to at least $50 today, I'll give them $50 in cash and give the goodies I've put in the auction away as presents next year.

I never get anything from my clients - until today, that is. I got a lovely box containing fire-roasted pepper relish, plum chilli sauce, cracker biscuits and a cheese knife. I was thrilled to bits!
