.
.The Wairarapa Hillclimb is on again!! I have posted a few details below, and see the website, which has more information, entry forms, a map of the track, and photos of the corners. Website address is http://www.cdd.co.nz/hillclimb.htm

If you enjoy blatting up the Rimutakas then come and try this road.

The hillclimb is held on the Te Wharau Rd (the Kourarau hydro dam is part-way up this road). This 6.8km road climbs approx. 1000ft and has 27 corners (give or take a slight bend or two). The road surface is good with only a few bumps and ruts to challenge man (or woman) and machine. For half the distance the road clings to the side of the hill (offering good views over the Wairarapa valley). The remainder of the course cuts through the surrounding farmland in a series of fast sweeping curves.

The hillclimb is to be held on the 12th and 13th March 2005.

New for this year.....

Saturday is a fun/practice day. The course will be shortened and will start approx. halfway up. The aim is to encourage people to have a go and get a higher number of runs in. Entry fee is $30.00 for this day. You can run as many bikes as you like for this fee. See the entry form for more details.

The Championship will be run on Sunday.

The Championship classes are:-
Junior... up to 600cc
Senior... 601cc to open

Support classes are for any motorcycle or sidecar. So bring along your road bikes, Classics/Post classic machines and have some fun.

Rider clothing is to be either one piece leathers, leather or kevlar jackets with leather, nylon motocross or heavy worsted trousers. Boots are to be leather or leather substitute at least 25cm high or plastic motocross boots (refer to MNZ rule section 8). Helmets can be open or full face but must conform to MNZ rule 8-2. Back protectors are recommended.

As riders must remain at the finishing area until all runs are completed, it won't be possible to enter more than one class per run.

Riders will be given two familiarisation runs up the hill as a group, then two individually timed runs. The fastest 15 or 20 will go into the final run to determine the placing per class.

See the entry form for further conditions and information.

Prize giving will be held at the venue.

The nearby Gladstone Inn has camping sites available (ph (06) 372 7866).

Just spoken to the Clerk of the course and BRING YOUR FUCKEN BACK PROTECTORS!

This on a closed public road, not some nambie pambie race track. There is NO run off, only fences with sturdy posts seperating you from a looooong fall.

Those not wearing appropriate protective gear, can find another hill to race up.

Full Cordura should be OK, just wear a back protector.

Who appointed you Hill Nazi? Just for being a meddlesome rear-gunner, I'm going to turn up in my jeans, t-shirt and helmet.

Don't worry, I'll wait for you at the top, so you can argue your point further :spudwhat: :brick:

Well firstly, you'll need to be wearing a T shirt to stop from over heating as you push your broken bown bullshit up the hill.

Secondly, grab yourself a Gixxer, and I'll consider you a semi worthy opponent in Hill climbing.

How about titanium threaded cordura jacket with titanium plates and a built in back protector ?

Presumably most events require a MNZ licence I guess this isn’t MNZ sanctioned?

PS: Wasn’t trying to snob you before, took a few seconds to work out where I knew you from.

Andrew Craig was leading (down to 2:14) when I left followed closely by Warren Turner on 2:17.

WT would have entered but unfortunately there was not enough wind for his liking......

Sensei, did Andrew used to race a red TL1000S about 5-6 years ago? Rides far faster than anyone that size has any right to if it's the same bloke.

I get that a fair bit - hopefully it's because Im less recognisable in my work threads rather than people just ignoring me... :crybaby:

I have to admit, it took a few seconds before I realised it was you - must have been the suit and tie.

Are there any other races held in closed public roads like this? Sounds awesome, almost like a mini Isle of man. :Punk:
