How many times do you see it? A vehicle (not always a cage but often enough) coming through a RH bend on the highway and crossing the centre line. Lots of times, that's how often. And I can tell you for why - it is because the driver watches the centre line and draws closer and closer to it until it is crossed. Instead of watching the LH line or edge of road and keeping away from the centre line. Try it some time. Fix the eyes on the left hand edge of the road as you go round the right hander and see how much further from the centre line you stay.......
Why bring this up? Because this morning on a narrow rural road, some dork in a van came through in the opposite direction, occupying half of my lane, that's why!.....fortunately I was way left, but I bet half of New Zealand heard the "twang!".......%#$^$*%@@!!!:ar15:

They also go around corners too quickly so that can't make the turn without drifting over the line.
Glad you made it out of the situation ok and this isn't a 'hit by a van' thread.

I don't know if that has much to do with target fixation, they shouldn't be looking at the line, they should be looking as far ahead as they can.

Of course, we know that bugger all of them will actually be doing that.

I do share your pain though having had similar experiences myself.

Car, Bike, Truck or bus, You look through the corner, not at the paint on the side of the road.

A easy way for males to prove "target fixation" exists is when urinating, focus on the tip of ones penis. Notice how the more fixated you become the less control you have over the flow of urine often causing you to run over the gutters of the toilet.

For this reason I like to wear a helmet when peeing as I consider it safer.

When I pee, I focus on not falling forward and whacking my head on the wall.

Or not losing your grip and having it flail around like a firehose and drench the entire place...................

All hell breaks loose when I have to give up aiming and use my hands to catch myself from falling into the urinal.

I woke up on the floor of the dunny once - I had passed out and fallen down....not down the hole, fortunately......

Reminds me on an incident in the Fosters Tavern many moons ago, Taking a much deserved piss in the public bar toilets, out of the corner of my eye I see me old mate shoulder charging me, Just before impact I step back, he crashes head first into the urinal, I move back into position and continue to finish my deed.

Never heard so much flustering in all my life.
