I have read all the threads about people converting their Rarotonga license to a NZ one but this is NOT what I am after.
I have a full NZ license. Say I jump on the plane to Raro and get a license there. I get back and get pulled over for, say, speeding. I show the officer my Raro license. What happens to the demerit points? Do they still go against my NZ license?
Please, no lectures on speeding. I just want to know how the system works.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Sorry forgot we have a Politics and Law subforum, feel free to move.

Yeah I picked up a few small ones. At the rate I'm going I wont last 2 years for the points to go away. Getting geared up with Bel Sti on Wednesday.

This may be a bit out there... but have you tried not speeding?
Are you aware of the laws surrounding international licenses etc? Also, to whom is the bike registered? The cops may just trace you that way, and then you're in an interesting world.

The King of Rarotonga would get the demerit points and pay the fine.
I think it would be no different showing my Northern Territory license back home, the officer in question would simply look up my name/details which would then reveal my NZ license.

Yeah I have no doubt they can tell I have a NZ license if I show a foreign one. I guess what I am after is understanding if points are recorded against a person or a license and what 'loosing your license' actually means, legally. Is it a person being banned from driving in the country or just loosing the right to drive on that particular license.

You don't loose your license. You loose your right to operate a motorvehicle. Have 6 licenses wont save you.

If you hold a NZ licence, you must drive on that in NZ, you cant drive on an overseas licence.
And yes it will eventually catch up with you, as if you do show your Raro licence, and get demerit points we end up linking the 2 licences records together, NZ licence and Pseudo licence (one that is set up if you dont have a licence or have an overseas licence)
