I was just perusing the entrants list for this years Dakar and way down the bottom was a Kiwi, Michael Shepherd, KTM 525EXC. Go you good man!
Would mind seeing some of his bike mods and will follow his progress with keen interest.
The only Aussies I can see are Simon Pavey, Charley Boorman's riding buddy from the 2007 Dakar....but his time he's riding a X-Challenge, and then some French guy (who resides in OZ)
I did smile when I saw a lone DRZ400 rider, I hope he's done some seat mods!!!!
Anyone know what coverage Sky TV might have of the race?

Anyone know what coverage Sky TV might have of the race?Probably nothing, like always. And even if it was scheduled, they'd likely show a re-run of some pathetic footie game instead.
Someone will put it up as torrents, for your viewing pleasure.

I signed up to Raid racing live (http://raid.racing-live.com/dakar/en/) one year because they offered coverage.
But all you got was a 4min daily vid, covering bikes, cars and trucks.
Bit of a disappointment, but you can track the riders progress on the site with via gps.
Pity they don't film Simon Pavey's efforts, that would be a good doco to watch.

When you hear of any torrents I'm keen for some links.

When I lived in Aus, they'd show a half-hour highlights segment (no ads) on SBS (free-to-air channel) every night at 6pm. Because there were no ads, half an hour actually allowed semi-decent coverage. It wasn't only the motor-racing fans who watched it either, even my mother was interested.
It's bullshit there's no coverage (even if you pay money!) to be had in NZ.

Was a good package; a quick summary then 1/3 each for cars/bikes/trucks. The car time was a bit wasted, was only interesting when they were passed by the trucks.

Yep, I thought Simon Pavey was the best thing about the "Race To Dakar" dvd - could've done with more of him riding difficult terrain and less of Charley whinging!!!

Yep SBS is still doing it, saw some higlights last week when I was in Aussie with work. The TV coverage has been nothing less than awsome. Stage 10 in particular with the massive sand dunes.

I have been with this torrent for a while now. I get the shows the next night. I have managed to watch series 12 of Top Gear the night after it airs on BBC2. Racing Underground has everything, all the shows, videos and Photos etc, very comprehensive!
The Dakar has been broadcast on Eurosport and I have all the coverage. From the Road Book recce, the lead up, through to all the stages and even the official photos...
It is chewing up my broadband and I havent watched any yet, but it will be HUGE!
When the Dakar was cancelled last year, Eurosport put on a show every night recapping the Dakar right through ALL of the years. It was fantastic!
I have all the 17 episodes of that as well.....
I have put most of it on DVD and will be burning it soon but looking at what is in store it is going to be a WOW as it is in HD and Widescreen.....
The ones I have screened from last year look great and you would think it was being viewed on Sky TV.....
Lucky me!! :done:

Has been for some time apparently. He is racing for a team in the UK Desert Rose or something. Not doing too bad either, but I guess you really need to be in that part of the world to do this event and practise on the sand etc...

I will have plenty of coverage when this is done...Just have to burn it and make a menu etc, but I have over 1 hour of every day, including the build up and photos, all courtesy of racing underground torrent.....Awesome!
Those Europeans have been very accommodating in providing coverage AND it is great quality too!

I see the Kiwi Mike Shepherd (Desert Rose Racing) is now 99th overall.....he's hangin in there, good to see. Only 118 riders left from the 234 starters, it seems finishing is the biggest challenge of all. How's them sand dunes stages 10 and 12? Huuuuge!
Looks like the lone DRZ400 rider has pulled out, can't see him in the finishers for stage 12, I was kinda hoping he'd finish.... :crybaby:
Edit 16 Jan..Hang on, there's my DRZ man, 3rd to last, he copped a 4 hr time penalty. Go the bloody DogRoota! They should give him a 10hr time credit just as some compensation for that hard seat!

Was just reading about Stan Watts and how his hand is so bad he can't hold the throttle properly (has to put his thumb on top) and thought to meself "he needs a throttle rocker like mine"..... "That's still on the Frogs DRZ" :D
