Towing a trailer behind a bike?

I have been thinking about a trailer behind the busa or new bike to take the bucket or wendys bike to the track or lets say waipua forest or a dog box .
I went to a site that hade some 270 kits for all sorts of bikes even the busa they seem to hang from the rear sub frame at the rear pegs .
Has any one had any experiance with towing behind a bike

i wouldnt do it.....braking performance is one thing,and the performance of the unit under hard(say panic stop) braking doesnt bear thinking about....

There's an old dude over the valley that's regurlarly spied tooling around the valley on an old Triumph (I think).

Can't see why not, minimising weight would be the key, and as long as you always remember it's there...

If they make them commercially they need to meet structural standards relating to the towing vehicle, not just the towbar/mount, so I'd say the mounts would be well good enough. Worth checking NZ standards compliance though.

My tow hitch comes off the rear peg mounts

and is also attached to the rear subframe under the seat. As I undersytand it one can tow half the weight of the bike at legal road speeds for a trailer. heavier the speed restrictions are something like 50kph.
There are many types of trailer hitches out there and they do not need to be certified under current law.

i've seen some that have a bolt through the rear axle if it is of the hollow type. Single wheel trailers make sence and will give more of the usual bike riding feel in the corners with a higher speed possible. To cart the bucket there is a bracket that hold the front wheel on the tow ball but the two wheel trailer would be more versitile. Another option is a side car to cart the bucket with bolt on boxes or passenger units.


RIDING WITH A TRAILER
Take care on the corners as the tow hitch and ball can bind at their max rotation pushing one across the avaliable road. A swivel hitch can help with this. I had a swivel hitch on my trailer but it induced too much sway if the load was not exactly ballanced, so I welded it up the found that I did not have the same lean angle. Now I tow it without having to worry too much as it just follows with out any sway on the straights. Allow for extra distance with braking and slower corner speeds. The riding style is more upright and extended towing will flatten off ones tyre. I've had my trailer for two years now using it semi regular to cart stuff, main use is for the Cold Kiwi.
