Steve McQueen was an actor. Steve McQueen was a biker (multiple International Six Day medals if I recall). Steve McQueen was also considered very cool.

Perhaps two years ago a book was published about his exploits, then later his friend Bud Ekins did a series of interviews shortly before he died in which McQueen featured large.

In case you are one of the younger ones who wondered what all the fuss was about, the movie Bullitt (1968) is on TCM at 8.30 tonight. No bikes as I recall, but the movie contains the car chase by which all car chase scenes are judged.

Great movie and Actor. (Drove the Mustang)

One reason i bought a BB 68 Fastback (that might have been a 67 in the movie)

The car chase to define all car chases is clearly from Gone in 60 seconds.

The chase seems pretty mediocre tbh, I prefer the chases in Ronin. Though I did enjoy Bullit.

Cannonball Run, Blues Brothers, Duel, Smokey and the Bandit, Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry, Road Warrior/Mad Max 1, Grand Theft Auto, White Line Fever, Two Lane Blacktop, Gumball Rally. Damn I grew up on this stuff!

And a couple of come latelys - Terminator & T2, Die Hard 4.0 (You can't beat jumping a car through a helicopter!)

Count the hubcaps that come off.

Watched it last night. Wasn't it great?

Important to note that the bit where the cars are bouncing down the urban streets in SF and getting air, etc, is shown several times, from different camera angles. And then one of the cars loses a hubcap as it turns left. (I think.)

So the endlessly regenerating hubcaps thing isn't really a blooper, as such; the intent is clearly just to show a totally awesome sequence over and over.

Works for me.

Oh, and fuck Muzzies. That was the movie that made me want a Charger.

No way! It's almost painful watching pieces of American crap wallowing and sliding their way through corners.

Here's some good (European) Steve McQueen car action...
