fuk, that really is crap.
Mine is in the same place as yours, so let me know how it goes.
What's the point in it? Just to generate revenue.. The fact you've already paid thru the nose to get it in the first place, just for them to ticket you for them being too lazy to look! Did she even look?
Check she got your rego right too, if not, no ticket ;)
My bro got away with that once - his plate is K1RT (well, his gfs), and the ticket cop wrote KIRT.. wrong car..

Crapola. Bigtime Crapola. Super Strength Crapola even.

Why was it under the seat?

This sounds like the sort of shit that makes the blood boil. You didn't display it. But you could prove you'd paid for it like the rest of us. Any skin off her nose if (in front of her) you attached it somewhere on the bike?

Unfortunately you'll probably end up having to pay it. Excellent. If it makes you feel better, yesterday i was bone tired after gibbing and puppy training, went for a ride, took $100 bucks out and left the money sitting in the machine.

At least you got to swear at somebody other than yaself...

fukers. can't get the twink out..??

Does it give any details of how you can appeal the ticket? Might be your best bet.. Just claim she's blind and that it was clearly displayed. Move it now, and take a pic. Then say that's where it's always been..

I've been told tho, that they often won't back down from anything and support their own. If they back off for one, then they have to do it for more.. Which is a pile-o-poo, but I'd appeal. Glad I wasn't parked next to you - she'd double her quote/revenue!

Just do the usual write-in, show that the bike was registered at the time, tell them it was under the seat, and you're very sorry for being so naughty, make up a good reason for that (hard to mount on a 636, or summat), include a photo of the shiny new rego holder on the rear fender that you sorted out the very next day.

You'll probably get off the ticket.

When you pay the licensing fee you get a label that shows the date your licence expires. You must display this label on the left-hand side of your motor vehicle's windscreen, or near your number plate (for trailers or motorcycles).

mate, the councils(she works for the council) willingly accept submissions and have plenty discretion to waive it. write a nice letter straight away enclosing a copy of your current reg & you should be ok. mate it's revenue collection once again... good luck

You could try writing in with a clear photocopy of the current reg sticker and saying something like you placed it there cause they kept falling off in the rain/getting nicked or something.

I got one a few years ago when my bike wasn't wof'ed. Thing was it was booked in that day so once done I sent in a copy with an explanation and they let me off. That was local council though not the Feds.

But the law has always been wof and reg have to be DISPLAYED (so it can be checked) Its not difficult - why take it out on the M.M when it is you that has been remiss?

Would there be any chance if you did take a photo of posting it and showing where it is currently displayed? or you bugjuice? Might just help the rest of us understand. Surely if thats where your kawasaki dealers put it its got to be a reasonable place.

I got a ticket for the same thing when my bike had an expired warrant and was parked in town in the morning since I was booked in to get a warrant at lunchtime. I ended up taking it to court and still lost. I've got no fucking idea how I managed to lose that one though.

I haven't got anything straight to hand (have you Quaz?).. This is a pic of mine, you can make out the holders just behind the plate, next to the indicator.. And it's not like I'm duckind down to take this pic either..
The bikes come with about 10kgs of plastic off the back, hanging down. Doesn't look all that great, kinda spoils it's sexy lines, so whip 'em off. Originally, they are screwed on below the plate, I think.. it's not standard anyway..

You can see some of the standard rear in this pic (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=7162)

And yet without them.... We would never find a park....

Perhaps Alan Wilkinson (Fast and Safe) would argue that we should all just make our own mind up how long is fair to be parked etc etc but we all know what would happen...

btw - Parking wardens probably work for a rent a cop outfit these days and you have always been required to display your rego / wof. They never used to check it so rigourously.

Its Hamilton City council. Ring them and find out who is in charge of the ticket revenue department. Make an appointment to see that person in charge...TODAY if they arent in a meeting etc. and take the bike up and show him where it is displayed on your bike and explain the reasons why. You will also have to put it in writing.. but try seeing the person in charge first. Speak sweetly to that person, by now the lovely meter maid has already told them her side of the story.....
Apologise for swearing at her... etc its called grovelling.

Now after doing all that you should get off the ticket.... and chat to the person where they would recommend in future where to place the rego thing in future as that is where you have always put it and never been given a ticket for it in the past for x amount of years of riding motorbikes....

Grovel well Quasi... and you will get off it..... charm the pants off them.. no not literally. Good luck.... this way does work... well it has for me over a parking ticket - but thats another story......

Got a ticket for the same thing a couple of years ago. Was in AMI buying new rego at the time and had taken the old registration sticker with me for the rego number. Went into the council building and filled in their little form with my explanation and showed them the new rego sticker (issued 2 minutes before the ticket) and got a letter waiving the fine a week later. Easy.

Have to disagree a little here....

I know what you are saying but not everyone gets as many choices. It's hard to explain if you have never been dirt poor but it's possibly not that simple from her point of view. It's maybe a silly regulation but the MM will be screamed at by angry bosses if she does not do what she's told and might just need that job more than you can imagine. Not everyone is clever or has choices and screaming at her just won't make any difference once the tickets written out.

Only 3 valid options. (screaming at MM is not one - feels good but won't do much)

1. Easy way. Pay up and learn a bitter lesson. Cost $200.00

2. Middle way. Explain the situation with proof of rego etc in a letter as detailed on the ticket, cost, 30 mins and 40c for the stamp.

3. Hard way. Learn up on all aspects of the laws / regulations and challange them in court as to the legality etc etc. (bound to be some dodgy bit there someplace), cost = time plus the possibilty you will loose and get costs.

I remember this happening to me in the 70's. Parked my car on the way to the wof station and got a ticket just like you. Fortunately I passed the wof and wrote explaining and got off.

Ive already done the middle way letters in the post.
And yes she /they whatever get yelled at for not doing their job, sure, and it my absolute duty as a new zealand citizen to stand up and be counted for those laws that are unfair, or those laws that in my view carry a unfair fine or sentence.I am obliged to because I love my country and what it means to me.
And Paul me old wise mate from the south, it will be a very very sad day in New Zealand when people do NOT speak out and protest. For then we truly will be at the mercy of the Beauricrats. and that day if it comes will be the day when I will leave this land of plenty to the beauricrats to have all to themselves.

As you've done the letter that's probably the best. Say that it was on the bike, but not by the plate, due to the fact that it has been lost/stolen/pissed on by vagrant dog in the past.

As you sais $200 bucks sucks since it WAS registed (and you can prove it).

What happens when some fuckwit unscrews the rego from the back of my bike and does a runner with it - am I liable for his actions? I'd like to think not, but that's what sound like would happen.

Hopefully the council will see sense. let us know what happens ...

Bummer, Quasi...

If your bike had a WOF issued when the Rego was in it's current position, or that which it was in when said M.M. wrote you the ticket then surely they( the WOF issuer) have failed to do their job by ensuring the Machine meets all regulations for a road going Motorcyle?!

Heaps of bikes have their Rego displayed on a swingarm or somewhere else...Hell I kept mine in the 'glovebox' on the old RF...

Your M.M. may be a jealous cage driver getting back at you for lane splitting one avo on her way home from work...

Yes! I agree but shouting at the MM is not speaking out in protest. It's venting at a minion of evil. It's like slaying an Orc, the evil overlord just sends out a replacement.... Or 2. You have to make it so that they don't send the replacements...

Speaking out in protest is fine, but doing what that chappie in dorkland did about his parking ticket is event changing stuff. Took the buggers to court and won... Of course, they keep on writing out tickets... But not on his car...

I suggest a letter to LTSA (or whoever) pointing out the stupidness of all this, the lost effort / time etc in an effort to get change.

Under the seat. Everyone else seems to be assuming that your rego will still be visible, but I'm guessing that it's really, truly locked away under the seat for security reasons?

I'm sure you explained this in your letter. :)

I personally don't understand why the council can ticket for rego/WOF issues & I have to say that I'd be pretty mad too, Quasi.

The other thing is that it seems pretty ridiculous to insist the rego is displayed near the number plate on a motorcycle when it's so easy for someone wandering past to steal it. It's all nicely locked away under glass in a c@r. :calm:

Now for one i dont think a MM should b issuing that kind of ticket as they work for the council, i see that as a police officers job to decide on display of it.

On my bike u cant see either WOF or rego and the rego is in the tool kit as it wasnt a sticky one to go to the back of the number plate, but even on the back u can read it nor can the WOF b read and yet i havent had a problem from a cop bout it yet, and it looks alot nicer without that shit sticky out all over the back.

You have said a mouth full there.... last Friday I got ticketed for being parked on a Pedestrian Crossing. Problem is, I was parked a good metre away from the crossing. I was parked on the right hand side of the end of a one-way street. Adjacent and to the right of where I was parked there two white "Give Way" road lines immediately followed by the left hand boundary of the light controlled crossing. (ie three white lines crossing the road in parallel). The right hand boundary of the crossing was approx 2-3 metres further down the road. My bike was angle parked at the end of a row of angle parks, neatly slotted between them and the crossing, the rear wheel was resting in the first of the "Give Way" markers.

I'm not a happy Chappy!

When I was driving the shuttles in Chch I lost track of how many times cars would park on a bus stop. Wardens just walked past and would only act on a telephone complaint. Then only issue a warning if the driver turned up. Not much advicethat has not already been said. Other than, if they do not let you off, maybe another letter asking why they have not used their 'discretion' in this instance.

I got pinged in exactly the same way a few years ago, had the bike parked in a 10minute park while I was picking up some papers at the solicitors arranging the purchase of our house, got back to a $200 ticket, even though the tag holder was pretty clear on the side of the bike(bolted to the chain guard) a polite letter cleared the matter up.

It's a funny world we live in, by risking your life and driving without a seatbelt, you get a $150 fine, where not displaying a piece of paper gets you fined $200... Moral is: bureaucracy first, safety later.

Anyone here had their rego label stolen?

I've had bike WoFs stolen several times, and my entire licence plate and registration sticker stolen once (when it really was a sticker)!

I used to keep my WoF under the seat, but have settled on the compromise of putting the WoF holder behind the plate where it's hard to break off. The registration is stuck onto the mudguard with clear waterproof tape.

I will take it out on ANYONE that works for outfits who ABSOLUTE policy is screw NZrs for every cent they are worth, she chose to do this job, and she represents the people that make the rules, if she and people like her dish out fucken police state money grabbing fucken policies like that THEY WILL get a Ear bashing from me, and I dont give a FUCK what sensitivities I hurt in the process.
:angry2:

hmmm sounds like someone needs to go to anger management....
Surely you are old enough and intelligent enough to understand why we have reg and wof and the need to display them to prove they exist. And achieving it is hardly a difficult task. Abusing all and sundry for what boils down to your own lack of attention to detail isnt a good look, mate, sorry to say.

Write in and have a try. I got the same ticket a couple of months ago. I wrote in and supplied proof that I was licensed at the time. They let me off.

You may as well try it, worse case is that they say no.

Is the $200 for "unlicenced" or "not displaying"?

The MM's in Nelson carry little digi cameras and iPaq's.
Everything is logged back to base including pics.
Its the same fine for either offence.

I have to agree with Sels1 on this as well, if they weren't meant for displaying they wouldn't give us anything to display.

However, maybe a better approach would be to note a vehicle that does not display a wof or reg, generate a letter to the owner informing them of the issue and either perform a simple liciencing check or request the owner to come in within 10 days and prove the vehicle is up to standard. Rego's and WOFs have date of issue on them, heck rego down to the minute.

Okay, fatal flaw in the above theory. That would cost money, not generate it. And how would the councillors award themselves another payrise?

Still, in a perfect world.

Anyway, send in a nice letter blah blah blah and try to get off the ticket.

Add $2 onto each registration fee of Waikato Rally 3. Noone will ever know, and you should make the $200 no problem :shake:

Mate, I just wrote out 2 cheques, one to you and one to "New Zealand Police". Hey, at least they have a "Free Post" option, I would have gone bust otherwise hahahahahahahahahaha :angry2: :brick:  :shake: :niceone:

You must display the licensing label on the left-hand side of your motor vehicle's windscreen, or near your number plate (for trailers or motorcycles).
http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/factsheets/49.html

I've got that and the WOF under the fuel filler flap BUT that is clearly labeled
"Lift to display WOF & REG" or words to that effect. I know even that is against their petty rules but she'd have to be an arch bitch to bust me and if she did I figure I'd front some bullshit legal precedent or suumint that made the bastards define "near" for the purposes of their arguement. Under the seat is "near", but it's not displayed.

If you notice this notice you will notice that it is a notice.

Do lots of arse-kissing like I did 5 years ago to get off a parking ticket (attached).
Best of luck. Geoff

Crapola. Bigtime Crapola. Super Strength Crapola even.

Unfortunately you'll probably end up having to pay it. Excellent. If it makes you feel better, yesterday i was bone tired after gibbing and puppy training, went for a ride, took $100 bucks out and left the money sitting in the machine.

At least you got to swear at somebody other than yaself...

Naked arse MB, time to give up those recreational drugs, they're costing you in more ways than one!! :Pokey:

It would have been better if you gave the money to Dangerous so he and I could "invest" it in a bottle of fine single malt...... (at least you would have known who was enjoying you misfortune) :bleh:

There was several bikes ticketed for this a while ago outside Ducati House in Lambton Quay - Matthewt's was one of them.

One of the blokes from my work had his (up-to-date) rego on the back side of the numberplate, he was ticketed because the wording of the legislation is apparently that it "must be able to be seen when reading the numberplate" or words to that effect.

The long and the short of it is that it seems it's a very gray area as to whether they can ticket or not.

Good luck with the letter Quasi.

Do meter maids work on a commission? My mate got off his fine for failing to display his rego by just sending a stern, but polite letter explaining why it was not displayed to the cops.

I got stung when I borowed a friends bike. He keeps his warrant and rego in his jacket pocket (did not know this until after I got the ticket).

The HP guy gave me a ticket for no WOF. Let me go on the rego.

I wrote in, providing a photocopy of the warrant with the letter, and explained the situation. The cops let me off.

This ticket was for "no current WOF" rather than for failing to display. So would have had a strong argument anyway.

As yours is for failing to display rather than no current reg, there is a risk that you are stuck with it. But I say write in, provide a photocopy. Chances are good I say.

Its just the law that we all have to show our rego and WOF on our bikes. Mine is in behind my number plate, which is the smaller type. You could try to write to the who ever is in charge, and explain that you did not know that it had to be able to be viewed and see what happens. Tuff luck story mate, hope this helps...

They are just being lazy useless wankers if they are not even going to look in the obvious places on the bike. Maybe quasi could quickly change the location of the offending non visable rego and state that it must have been the same dumbarse or close relative? Just a thought :msn-wink:
