I made an absolute dick of myself, today.

Got the all-new front shocks fitted prior to Puke, on Tuesday.

Rolling bike out of van. Lacking coordination. Messed it up. Poom. Bike falls, snapped of foot-peg. Couldn't participate in the KTD.

Mind you, if that's the best I could do when unloading the bike, then maybe I shouldn't have been there anyway.

Anyway. Went off feeling a bit pissed; but Steve had asserted, 'No probs, mate. Your credit's good for the next one.'

Felt a bit better about that. But I still hadn't tried out the all-new front shocks.

And so, today, I thought, 'Fuckit'! I know a bit of road whereupon I can try out the stopping power of proper front shocks. So off I went.

There I was, just me and the road. I did several power-brakes and was amazed at the diff the new shocks made.

And so, there I was, hiving off down a bit of a hill, doing about 140. Straight road. 'Here we go. Squease, brake!" Bike pulled up in like 50% of previous.

But my head was playing track-days> I hadn't once glanced in my mirrors.

I hadn't seen the baby-cager in his BMW, with all his mates in the back and the girl in the front...him being a real driver and everything.

So I missd all this and brought on the picks. Very satisfying result till I heard the screaching of tyres behind me.

Yeah sure, he was following too close.

But what a dumb fuck was I to take track stuff onto the open road?

Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

Sonny-boy pulled over, about a click ahead. I stopped for his gesticulating.

Clearly, he was filled with embarrassment, which lead to him needing to be on top again, on account of the girl, his mates, and his near-miss.

So I got off, rose to my full size and walked over. The kid lost interest in wanting to beat me up. But geez, his mouth went on for quite a while.

When I apologised for putting him at risk he missed the point about keeping himself out of the risk vector, but he clearly felt pleased that the old bloke had fessed up to nearly causing an accident. Yeah, right!

But, the fact is, it was all my fault. I was on the track in my head, but on the road, in fact. Dopey dick I can be, on occasion.

It's not a matter of being on the track or not, it's a matter of forgetting to check it was safe to try hard braking somewhere where it's not expected.

Interestingly enough if you were tooling along the motorway and slammed on the brakes and the BMW arse-ended you HE would be in the wrong for following too close. Technically the same in the above case, but I agree with you leaving it on the track, or a least checking your mirrors first :sweatdrop

Technically BMW Boy is in the wrong. But if he did the same to you and you rear ended him it would be a case of "The F*(Ckin cager was just driving along and then he stamped on his F)$#%in brakes and now my bike is a wreck"

You are definitely, morally, in the wrong, and you need to pay for the damage you caused to his ride.

I've posted about using a three second rule as regards the two second rule here and been called a Nana. M@th@rf*ckers can just stop right in front of you. Anywhere, anytime. Point made, except it' a bike done snag a cage for a change.

The thing on the open road whether in a cage or on two wheels... expect the unexpected...

didn't you see that dog or sheep that was running out on the road... or that vehicle unexpected slamming on anchor becasue of the little kid chasing his ball or dog that hates motorcycles because they make to much noise... etc etc etc

Though technically speaking you really shouldn't just slam them on for the hell of it though and if you do you should know what is behind you

Not sure about that.

You should be able to brake hard from whatever speed you ride at. To do that properly you need to practice braking hard from those speeds. Having first careflully checked there isn't a mack truck up your arse of course... :whistle:

I don't think there was damage - I don't think they hit him. Unless you count flat-spotted tyres as damage, I suppose.

And if you were doing 140, does that mean BMW-Boy was too? Cos if he was doing 100, and managed to stop short (of impact), then he was doing nothing wrong, legally.

Good on you for being honest and humble enough to own up to that and admit it. So often people have the attitude of pointing fingers at everyone else without realising that there are 3 fingers pointing back at them everytime. So kudos on your attitude and glad you were not hurt.
